It depends vastly on how you wish to keep your horse.
I'm a full livery and my costs per month are as follows:-
Livery (which includes all feed, bedding etc. but not supplements) £400.00
Insurance £56.00
Feed supplements - £60.00 per month
Farrier - £55.00 per five weeks
Contingency money (replacement of tack, rugs, odd vet visit etc) - £50.00
Dentistry, Wormers, Vaccinations - £20.00
Total cost per month - £641.00

I never thought i would be able to afford a horse! but my dream came true last April.
I worked out an average month inc insurance would come to £150, this is how it adds up
DIY Stable and grazing including as much straw as you want and with good facilities £95
Haylage for winter £25
Insurance £22
And then not every month
Farrier for trim only £25
Bag of Hi Fi Lite £9 lasts Porsha ages as only a handful a day with garlic!
And then yearly you have your dentist £30 visit and vet booster jab £100, Back person £30.
And then you find you end up spending every spare penny in the tack shops even if it means you going without food for the week for yourself:D

I'm working on a budget at the moment (literally got the spreadsheet out now!).
At the moment it is shaping up to be around £300-£350 a month. This is DIY livery (inc feed, bedding, fascilities, worming), barefoot trimming by farrier, insurance, one lesson and a little leway for bits and bobs (fly spray, hoof oil, little bits like that!).
It's difficult to say really because everyone does different things, and areas vary wildly in prices. If you are serious, it just takes a bit of ringing around ^_^

I have two - my saddle horse (11 year old TB) and a yearling filly. They're both on DIY livery. They probably cost me an average of £250 in total per month.
Livery - £50 each
Insurance - approx £50 (in total - they're both on one policy)
Feed - approx £20 a month in total (over summer, anyway!)
Farrier - £15 each every eight weeks for barefoot trims
Worm counts - £9.50 each three times a year
Worming - approx £9 each as needed (so far only twice a year)
Then there's vaccinations (approx £30 each once a year + call out fee), dental appointments (£35 each twice a year), saddle fittings (£30 twice a year), lessons as and when I have time, vet's bills (which have been enormous this year!), savings for my filly's tack and equipment... It all adds up really quickly!

I'm budgeting £300 a month to be spent on the horse, with another £50 a month going into a horse based savings account (plus another £50 going into a non-horse account, probably for a new car in a few years)

My 12.1hh is on DIY and costs:
Stabling & turn out: £130per month (includes bedding and hay/haylege)
Shoes: (fronts only) £60 per month
Insurance: £5 per month(3rd party only)
Feed(in winter): £5 per month
Wormers: about £10 every few months(usually more but we order online as a group delivery)
Then you have additional costs of:
rugs: £30+
dentist/vets/vaccinations etc: call out fee of about £20+, and £15+ for work done.
And you need to have money aside for when they're ill. Mine has been on box rest for 3months, thank god my livery includes bedding and hay. His current costs are:
Stabling: £130pm
Shoes: £60 pm + call out fee of £35 and sedative injection of about £35, each time he's shod.
Insurance £5 per month
Bute from vet: £30 per month.

I put all my expenses into the manage your horse website! It is very interesting as I also include clothing and equiptment for myself that I would not need if I did not have a horse.
I am roughly £400 a month but I do compete so that is where the big costs are for me. If I did not compete I reckon I would be down to £200 a month with a pony that lives out but still needs farrier, insurance, jabs, some feed, saddle fitting. teeth rasping.

Woh! Im actually shocked looking at some prices! But i do share the field with my friend and also we share the food + haylage, so im pretty lucky.
she lives out 24/7. Costs me (well parents):
£40 rent per month,
an extra £10 a wk for feed + haylage in winter. So £80 a month in winter.
Umm my horse has fabby feet + hardly ever needs trimming, if so, its a tiny trim so the farrier doesnt charge. She is also barefoot. Farrier i think charges £20 for a trim.
Insurance will be about £30 a month a think.

Didn't realise UK horse-keeping was so much. I keep Daisy in winter (barefoot, living out) for the equalvilent of about GBP90 and that includes farrier work and all her feeding.
In summer, she costs about GBP30.

I've just moved to a much cheaper yard, I'm a bit unsure what hay and straw I'll use but estimating:
DIY - £64 per month
Straw - £16 per month
Hay - £40 per month
Farrier - £21 per month (£32 every 6 weeks)
Insurance - £40 per month
Feed - £20 per month
Supplements - £10 per month
Fly spray etc - £50 per month
Lessons - £80 per month
Chiro - £10 per month (pro-rata from 6 monthly checks)
Saddle Fitter - £14 per month (pro-rata from 6 monthly checks)
Teeth - £6 (pro-rata from 6 monthly checks)
Vaccinations - £3 (pro-rata as is annual)
Wormer - £4 (pro-rata approx)
TOTAL - £298 in winter, bit cheaper in summer
Then there are shows, clipping and tack/rugs etc on top of that. My old yard was more so I have a £500 monthly budget

Including everything about £110 per month but maybe £180 in winter. This is inlcuding eveything apart from competing and then its about £200 ( I think??)
Expensive things but SO worth it!

Since moving yards I have managed to cut costs quite a bit. Saving £60 a week now my boy is on grass livery during the summer (was £85 a week full livery at previous yard, now on £25 a week). The full livery will be £55 a week during the winter.
Farrier costs have gone down as well. Although feed etc will need to be bought, it wont be that bad. Haylage and bedding included, but I will probably top it up.
Just now I am £100 a month livery, £60 every 6 weeks for shoes.
The winter I will need to wait and find out
