Do not get into a competition with your horse as to who needs the most shoes in a year.

Simple, I don't buy into needing everything the tack shop has to offer. I have what my ponies need and don't go shopping/browsing unless it is to buy something.

As a consequence I don't have loads of stuff that never gets used.

Clean your own rugs in the bath!!! Really easy to do as long as its a sunny day so they can hung up outside to dry.

Use human alternatives ie shampoo, conditioner, baby oil etc

Use the internet not shops:)

Hi, the best tip I would give is recycle!!
Also don't buy expensive horsey shampoos etc, use Tesco basics, and baby oil for around muzzle and show sheen, by doing stuff like this you really save money!!:)

A lot of the cheaper own brand horse and pony food is as good as the more expensive stuff and can knock pounds off of your feed bill.
Also use human baby shampoo for bathing instead of "horse" designed products. This goes for things like sponges and baby lotion too.
If your horse lives out this saves money as well as time. No bedding to buy etc:)

No that sounds like a good competition to me!- I would LOVE to have £70 to spend on heels every 6 weeks!

use pledge furniture polish on your horses tail to keep it tangle free, and repel mud. do not spray it on the top of the tail, use it below the tailbone. spray it sparingly onto a brush to brush through long mane, avoid the roots by a couple of inches. dont use it on the forelock at all.

- Wash rugs in the bath then air dry on the line on a nice day
- LOOK AFTER YOUR TACK then you won't need to replace it!
- Repair things - duct tape and heavy duty thread for rugs, a leather needle and thread for leatherwork - baling twine for a busted fly fringe etc.
- Baby oil not show sheen for muzzle, manes & tails (spray on to a dandy brush and brush through mane and tail or onto a cloth for muzzle) NOT on hot days though!
- Make your own fly spray
- Use human baby shampoos and baby wipes
- Pull manes by hand - don't buy expensive solo combs etc
- Buy the budget chaff or pony nuts at your tack shop and add a general supplement - I worked out I save a huge amount if I buy budget chaff and pony cubes (£7-8 a bag) then add a £17 supplement to it instead of forking out £11 - £25 a bag on expensive feeds.

does washing in the bath not clog the plug hole with hair?
