I recently tried a new bedding- its very fine linseed flax.
purchased wrapped in a bale like shavings for about the same price as a bale of shavings but...
so much more econimical to use, its so fine it just falls through the fork so only poo is thrown away. Its very sturdy and dosent traipse around so wouls be brilliant for deep litter.
I used to put 2 bales a week of bedmax in my stable now can make do with half a bale of this new stuff. Its also quite loose in the bag so very very easy to only use half a bag at a time.
I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to shavings but easier than straw.

I go to a local factory where they make amongst other stuff bath bases and pallets.

I get huge bags of roughish sawdust for free and also wood for my stove, also for free!!!!

I have just started using wood pellets for bedding, its much cheaper than shavings, which at present are very expensive, the wood pellets i get are clean fresh and white no toxic chemicals at all so brill for animals, the only dissadvantage is you have to have a tonne delivered in 15kg bags, which I have done, so if anyone wants to pick some up they are welcome, (Kent Area) @ £2.75 a bag. sorry cant deliver.
