How quickly they grow up --- Smartie is having his passport done in the next few weeks --- what colour should we put?

Here he is at one day old

And now -- such a handsome man!

He's..wow. Yes, do want. Very much. I ogle a LOT of horses but he really catched my eye. Stunning.

No idea on colouring, is pure sex an option?

He is a proper cutie! I think Kai and Dolly would love him - if you'd like to post him, I'll be ready and waiting to add to my herd... ;)

roan maybe??????????

Mum is skewbald but roaning out at the rate of knots ... And big sister is also a roaning skewbald -- Dad is a big piebald .... Smartie looks chestnut of some type to me ... but with a dark mane and lots of white spalshes (sabino maybe?). I have a gut feeling he might go red... It's cute but would be good to have the "right" colour on the passport.

I don't think he's roan as his face and legs are light - in roans they tend to stay dark (I think  ) If he was mine I'd probably be hideously boring and put him down as "brown"...but then again I was convinced Kai was chestnut as he's so orange and ignored the black points which make him bay

Seriously. He is my dream horse (er excluding the fact he is not remotely spanish/friesian/coloured - this is how much I love him, I lose all standards!)

He's so scrummy and teddy bear like and chunky and arggh I just want to eat him all up.

Are you sure he's not got some feline blood in him lol? My cat does that when he wants a cuddle, so like PL52 I'm sort of drooling right now. I want one. Pretty please :D
No idea about colour though. Sure Chev will be along soon enough :)

is he not just chestnut?

Hal went a funny shade like that when he was a foal, but ended up very dark liver chestnut (he has sabino gene, and flaxen mane and tail)

In all honesty,, he looks like he will end up Bay to me. Bay with Sabino.

I would say bay and sabino too, not roan. You could ask on the horse colour genetics forum, or I could post them there if you don't want to join?

Bay sabino sounds resonable to me ... would that also cause his little dorsal stripe?
Bay above chestnut because of the darker mane, I'm guessing? But with white legs because of the sabino gene?

That's counter shading... the dorsal stripe that is.
My new silver bay filly also has a cute little dorsal stripe...but it is only counter shading.:D

He is georgous!! I had a cob mare who on her papers was skewbald as a youngster. I think the brown patches were very light. These brown patches then went dappled and started to grey out, and then by the time she was in her teens she was completely white. But when we used to wash her down or bath her, you could see the black patches of skin which used to be the skewbald/dappled grey areas! From looking at mum and dad, I would not be surprised if he turns out skewbald with a lot of white.

Good luck with him, he is lovely!

He's such a cute ickle munchkin!! Has a real cheeky but adorable face!!

I would have said bay from his colouring, and would guess at a fair bit of sabino from the white legs.

Maybe drop a PM to chev asking her to take a look if you want to be really sure for his passport??
