Don't throw them out like I used to thinking that I didn't want that mouldy looking thing in my horses mouth. Leave them to soak in hot water with vinegar and a little fairy liquid. After a while give them a scrub and they'll be good as new!
Am so chuffed with how they turned out I'm now going through house looking for things to 'renew' lol :p

hahaha
I just used normal vinegar. Afterwards I brushed it with toothpaste which got his approval when he took it.

i wash them after every use. my horse is a hamster, so he hides some food in his mouth and chews on it when ridden, so all gueee comes out onto the bit. so i just rinse it everytime - no problem:)

I put all sorts of things in the dish washer - definately bits (when I used one) (cant beleive anyone would throw them out for being dirty ) but also stirrups, glass lamp shades, ornaments, cheap jewellery, fridge shelves, washing up sponges... if its it wont go a funny shape or discolour - in it goes!!!!!
Muddy stuff like stirrups would go through on their own with the excuse that Im cleaning the dishwasher!

I think my mum may be wondering why I'm so keen to do the dishwasher tonight!! LOL.
I wash bits after every use but if you've not used them for a while they go a bit funky so have always used vinegar lemon juice and fair liquid with water to clean them but dishwasher is a LOT easier :D
