I have been looking for a horse now for 3 months... cant find one?
We had an oppurtunity to buy a coloured youngster from Midlands but I feel owners now backed out. Really had my hopes up.
Being in Cornwall restricts me but I have always been happy to travel!
We are looking for a loan with hopefully view to buy ( due to just moving to cornwall!) Have space gathering dust on my livery yard space :o(
Ohhhhhhh :(
Been without a horse now for 6 months and starting to fret!
EDIT!: sorry this ended up in adults who ride ponys! at 5'10 I dont think I qualify lol

I think being patient is the key to finding the right horse. But I am not and will never be, a patient person. I fretted after a few weeks of not finding anything but then i broadened(sp) my critiria 2 inchs and found Minnie.! I was discounting anytyhing below 15hh!
I am sure you will find your perfect partner soon helen be patient , and i am sure something will come to you in the place you least expected it.:D

have you tried www.diamondads.co.uk
you put in your post code and it brings up all the ads distance nearest first etc...

Yes Thanks Nat, I have put an advert on that via my local edition! hehe!!
I have an ad on most horse sale sites and often search them!
Keep an eye out in local rags, and tack shops..
Hence why I am feeling like it will never happen!...
but like you say hopefully one will turn up out of the blue!
From the back of our house we can see about 70 cobs at a local trekking centre which annoys me even more lol!!!
Anyway I cling on to sanity!

I am still looking as well but hopefully the Highland I will be riding next weekend :)
If i did have free time on my hands should i have the highland on loan?

getting a pony on loan is a good idea as long as you have thought about the commitment involved. If its your first horse then this is a good way of tasting it for real, as if you feel you cannot manage you can always hand the horse back but a good idea to check if this is ok for the owners circumstances.
Good luck with the highland they are lovely ponys/horses!

ahh well you should have no problem!.. I think I would prefer to buy a horse if it wasnt a long term loan with no option to buy, as its hard to spilt company usually heartbreaking if you have read the thread I am so gutted by another poster

When we were looking for a second horse we started to get downhearted about ever finding anything, then we asked a friedn who told us of two friends who were trying to sell/loan their horses, we now have one of them on loan (the horse, not the friend!).
I'd say the best way to find something is by word of mouth, tell everyone you know int he area that you are looking for a horse and see what they can find you. I'll see if I can find anythign in this area for you as we aren't too far from you, what are you looking for?
bye!

Well everyone heres an update!
Nat 17 you were right!..they certainly turn up the most UNEXPECTED places!
After putting ads on every website going! I got a message today of a lady with a coloured mare
I called her back and she sounds perfect!..Loves hacking and Bomproof shes not sure wether to sell or loan.. even better! lol Eithers fine for me!
I'm going to see her on wednesday at 11am!
Heres the strange but true part!
I asked her where she lives..she said St Ives Cornwall! Om ny god I said so do I!
Next I said ok where abouts!
She lives in the next close after me!
OK I said this is far to wierd! wheres the horse kept... In the fields infront of my house! ( a small walk through an alleyway then across a paddock!!)
I nearly fainted on the phone! Talk about a small world!.. I feel this is perfect for me ! We have just moved to cornwall in December so it will give me a chance to meet some new horsey friends aswell!
The bonus is the mare loves hacking down to the beach and splashing about in the water!...
Oh I am sooo excited.. but trying not to build hopes up.. BUT I cant help it!
We had decided to buy a youngster but I think now I have been swayed! lol
watch this space!:D :D :p :p

Well I hope she is exactly what you are looking for do keep us up to date with the news....I think we are all as excited as you are, nothing better than horse hunting....at least you are good and don't impulse buy like I have done in the past  Although I doubt I would have got better than Rupert (even if he has a few issues) for the price I paid (£700)..after all I sometimes forget that he is in fact 100% in traffic, doesn't buck, rear, or bolt etc is only 6 years old and nice looking and is a nice hack if you ignore the fact that he won't go alone and gets anxious and plays with his bit and jiggles about....I think the Shetlands have spoilt me I am such a perfectionist now:rolleyes: :D

Well Been to see the Mare... It took me a whole 2 mins to walk to the yard lol!!!
She is lovely and was out in the field. Said hello I am riding her tomorrow on a hack with 2 others, but from everyone on the yard she is a darling!...
A little spookey when out on a hack on her own.. but hey lol had far worse believe me!! ( ie trying to jump of a motorway bridge not the nicest way to depart this planet huh!)
Ended up chatting with the ladies on the yard for about 1 1/2 hours! after not speaking to many people since I moved here in Dec was great to meet some like minded friends.. they were all a good giggle!! Going to meet up with them at a show on Sunday aswell! Great to get back into horses at long last!
Will tell you all about the hack tomorrow!! Hopefully dont have the thunder and torrential rain we have predicted lol!!!
There was also a 2 day old foal who was sooo cute! The mum was very protective over her
Thanks for everyones messages!!.. Kept me calm lol!

Hello all!
I spoke to the lady who owned her earlier and we have decided that I ride her 2/3/4 days a week.. which is super! she also said if she did decide o sell I would have first refusel!
She is a lovely mare and I have been totally turned around as I have always owned geldings, although worked with many mares.
She is the sort of mare that you have to gain trust from and I felt she did, and she earned her trust from me aswell...
She is so sweet! I have been so swayed by liking geldings as a first!

I was without a pony for a while & went to see a most unsuitable pony but bought him all the same purely because I was fretting without one! Bad move!! I finally sold him after a lot of heart searching & believe it or not I bought an elderly pony that had been on the yard 10 years. He was there, right in front of my nose!! He is the best thing that had ever happened to me!!
