I'm having lessons on Star, and At first, everything was going fine. Now I'm beginning to feel that I'm not good enough to be riding a greenish horse like Star. I've learned so much, about the effect of where my shoulders and head go and how it affects Star's way of going. I think my hands are improving, and Helen says that Star is now going so much better. So why does trot still feel like an earthquake, getting faster and faster? I keep telling my self 'half halt, half halt, outside rein, inside leg'. This is all probably nerves , because I'm going to do a ridden class in 5 weeks. I don't want to let Star down!

Hi janette,
Don't worry chuck, I know exactly how you feel . Taffy's trot is really unbalanced too. You will get better in time. So will stars gaits its just going to take lots of time and practice.
I feel at a loose end with Taffy we seem to be doing 1 step forward 5 back.
So try not to worry, and just keep at it. You will have good and bad days but stick at it.:)
Good luck for show keep in touch:D

know what you mean about 1 step forwards, and 50 million backwards. We were practising stopping the other day!! In a precise place!!! - on an X marks the spot. Feel ok about that, because Star actually listened to my leges, and straightened her self up.:D :D :D
It s just this unbalanced trot.

Taffy goes round corners like hes got 3 legs with wrong bend and stumbles if I don't give him such obvious aids its laughable!!! but we are gettin better. Trot is actually his worst gait!!! he goes heavy on his forehand easily if I'm not constantly at him. But good that you had a good cheer u up lesson thats important to keep your confidence up.
But don't over load on the schoolong. Do take breaks and go for a nice hack some days just to keep star frsh and willing to work.

Keep at it u will get it.:D
