What would i get putting a chestnut mare to a supposed dun stallion? I don't no if he is dun or buckskin.
both sire and dam of mare where chestnut with a lot of chestnuts in the immediate breeding.
Stallion comes from dun and grey stock.

Depending on the breed you could probably almost guarantee its a buckskin mis-named, but if its a breeder you would have thought they knew their stuff
Anyway... chestnut will be 2 red copies, so bubba will definitely have 1 copy of red, and the possibility of an agouti hiding in there.
If its a buckskin it could have anything hiding in there! But it will definitely have at least 1 black and 1 agouti, and will have 1 cream. Then it could have red, black, red with agouti or black with agouti.
Without knowing the sires genes (or if the mare is carrying agouti) it would be difficult to say what you are most likely to get but you could get...
Chestnut
Bay
Palomino
Buckskin
Black

If he was a true dun you could get the delightful red dun colour...
Mare can only ever pass on e (chestnut)
Stallion could be carry Agouti A Black E Chestnut e Cream Cr
Is the stallion definitely dun? Possibly buckskin? Possibly greying?
What breed is the stallion? It may help narrow the variable as to him being a likely dun or a cream gene carrier...
Potential foal colours with stallion presumed buckskin and unknown Agouti status.
29.17% - Buckskin
29.17% - Bay
16.67% - Palomino
16.67% - Chestnut
4.17% - Smoky Black
4.17% - Black

Cork Arthur was not a real dun as far as I know, he was grey.
RID don't carry dun or cream... though there are lot of fakes out there - people down the road from me have 'the only palomino draught mare in ireland' she is registered apparantly... they don't seem to notice the flaw in what they are saying... did she spring up out of the ground?!

Im pretty sure thats not dun, and I am certain it isn't buckskin either, just an unusual shade of bay.
Unless they have a certificate stating that the horse carries a dun/cream gene, as most breeders who breed for colour will, then I wouldn't be convinced ;) IMO all stallions should be cert. to show colour genetics :p
Is it colour you are after or breed? If you want a palomino then breed to cremello stallion, if your after a buckskin then you will have to breed to a homozygous bay with cream (or double dilute bay IF you can find one that is quality enough to guarantee) and hope you get the cream gene in the bub :D

Not wanting to breed just curious as to how baby would turn out. Shes built like a tank so a draught would make it worse. If and when I do finally decide on a stallion it will be a warmblood of some sort or a very nice thoroughbred.

Hes registered with the horse board as grey too, I think as sexy sietske says hes an unusual shade of bay. I didn't think that ID carried dilute genes so thought I'd post and make sure.

As Rips said, RID don't carry dun or cream. He's an unusual bay.
So on a chestnut mare, chances are chestnut, bay or black depending on exact genetics.

Oh! He is nearly wild type bay, except his leggies are perhaps a mite too dark to be entirely typical.
What an interesting boy colour-wise!
