Does anyone have any advice, im looking for a young pony to ride at the moment theres a lady at our yard who has a 6 year old native who Im having a chat with at the weekend about riding him. At the moment im not 100% sure what she is looking for, i.e. schooling him and riding him whenever, she doesnt ride him but her son does occasionally, when work allows it, so I asked if they wanted someone to ride him, hence the impending chat.
What do you think is fair to pay for, im happy to pay for food and trimming of feet or shoes if needed as he doesn't have hard feed or shoes at the moment, he lives out 24/7, but they still have a stable available for him and pay for this as well as grazing.
Does anyone have any guidelines

If you look around you will often find people out there desperate for help offering free riding for work. Me and my mum have 4 horses between us and when I was at uni my mum had someone coming down to the yard to help out with work - and keeping them exercised. If you are getting the horse on loan - ie the care of the horse is yours - then expect to pay more. If however you are going to be sharing then expect to pay less. People I know that share usually pay around £15-20 per week (max) and some just work for rides which works very well.

Hi! I pay £20 per week for the horse I loan. She is full livery but lives out 24/7 and is given two feeds a day. I am also supposed to contribute towards shoes but haven't been asked for anything towards that yet (been loaning since January). I don't have to do any stable chores unless I want to, just to help out.
Her owner rides once a week but this is infrequent so I get to ride her basically when I want to.
Hope you get on okay with your chat to the owner at the weekend.

I am not sure what the set up is on my new loan yet, However The last time a shared/part loaned I apid for the shoeing and wormers which I felt like a good deal seen as I did all the hacking out!
I also had 3 set days which he was all mine..and if I wanted more I just left a note. At the time it was just what I needed due to work commitments/children ect... And It felt like I almost had my own!
Good Luck with your new share!
