Could someone tell me how do my friend and I set up electric fencing on a buget? obviously we need fencing tape and plastic poles/rods and a battery, but we need an energiser as this seems to be the most expensive part and how do you keep the battery dry in our s.....t weather as we don't have stables just a field??:)

The car battery which i am guessing is what you would use for the eleccy fencing wouldnt need 2 b kept dry. Mine is out in all weathers and it still works ;)

As for doing it on a budget thats a tricky one, as all the energisers seem to be expensive. Unless you get the battery powered onced (like the ones which run on D size batteries rather than car batterys. I know you can get these for like 30 quid in some places. It depends on how much respect your horse already has for eleccy fencing. If you have an escape artist then a more powerful car battery run one would be better but if not you might get away with a smaller cheaper one. :p

You can't just connect a battery to a fence - you need the energiser to make it all work. You can pick up secondhand units on eBay fairly cheaply and instead of buying new car batteries, ask at your local scrapyard/garage and you may get a used one for free (most likely one that won't power a car anymore but will work fine on an electric fence).
