Has anyone any idea which width saddle I would need for a Highland Pony as I have only seen the Saddle available by mail order.
Thanks for any advise.

HI Merlon,

Sadly,I doubt whether even the wide fit would be wide enough for a Highland. TG are working on a wide tree for natives/warmbloods etc, with a saddler from Scotland who actually specialises in fitting Highlands! So, don't despair, there will eventually be one to fit all types!

Medium is very narrow, unless your Highland is most unusual! I had to send a medium back and get wide for a TB. I'd be interested in hearing how you get on with it.

Thanks Heather & intouch,
I'm glad I posted this message, it has saved a lot of time and effort, I will definatly wait now until the new design is brought out, I think this new design will definatly be a sucess, as more & more Adults are returning to our wonderful Native Ponies .

I appreciate that it does not have the design advantages of Heather's saddle but our Highland is happy in the width of a Teqnic. It is 17" and looks enormous for a 14.2 pony but fits him a treat. They are very wide chappies, or chapesses.
It is their build that makes them suitable for adults, and their build that makes saddle fitting awkward.

I spoke to vaness at TG yesterday re the problem with the wide fit- only one of my horses even goes in the wide fitting one, and mineare varying breeds. Warmbloods are generally very wide when muscled properly as are my Lipizzaners and Arabs, so the native bunch are not alone!

However, help will shortly be at hand, because TG are developing a tree to the same pattern that I use, in a very wide fit. A well known saddler in Scotland who fits a lot of -you guessed it!- Highland ponies is working in conjunction with them.So it shouldn't be too long before we can fit the beasties too!

Heather, I've e-mailed TG about this, but do you know whether your saddle will be available in the US? Will you have Feedmark carry it as well?

My mare is 16 hh, about 1200 pounds, Connemara/TB cross. I'm presuming I'd need a wide tree (esp. now that she's been out on grass a few months and looks quite preggers!)

Haven't spoken to Feedmark about carrying it, but they might, especially in the US. I will mention it to them and see if they are interested, Zoe.
