1) I no longer care going round M&S in my jodphurs :p
2) I walked to the station this morning as the £3.00 cab fare is the price of turn out, rug up and bring in
3) Getting up for work at 7.30am this morning was a lie in
4) browsing clothing websites as been replaced with on line tack shops
5) I've stopped trying to work out where the bruises on my legs come from
and it's only day 3 :D I will continue to post my observations .....does anybody else have any?

I dont wash my hair, everytime I have hat hair, just tie it back or clip it up.
Get stressed about bedding, I have a messy mare and the search is on for the right bedding.
Often have dirty nails :o

1. Hall at home needs hoovering every day to prevent the kitchen looking like a stable.
2. Can't tell you the last time I shopped in Karen Millen but I can tell you the exact time I shopped for horsey products. 10 minutes ago!

Cheers, problem being now is getting somewhere to try one on, as a horse owner you never have time to shop, unless as you say its horsey shopping :D

I bought mine at the Herts Country Fair, so was able to watch horses at the same time. The best type of shopping there is

I dont put my riding clothes away despite being a neat freak.
I have more filing folders for horses than I do other household bills!
In winter my hallway smell of bonfirey coats.
getting dressed up means putting on clean jods
I am the only one in my office with poo picking blisters
I do my weekly food shop in the week, weekends are for horses
I compare prices of horse feeds more than baked beans!
I wear jodpher boots with my jeans just in case I have to pop to the yard
I read horse and hound instead of the FT on planes and trains
I book my client appointments around the horsey week

Hehehe, yes, all of these things! I no longer look for smart work clothes, I am making do (well, trying to slim into my old stuff)!!! I would much rather spend any spare cash on horse gear!!!
House work has been replaced by horse work!
I can't bear to waste anything anymore, and that includes food, so OH and myself are eating a lot healthier stuff as I now see any wasted products as either bales of hay or new rugs for the winter...........

I now never forget a hair appointment as Zaks shoes get done every six weeks and my hair is done the same week, before if I lost the card I would never remember.

This totally brings back memories of when Ruby first came. The bruises, tack shops, not caring about wearing jods in shops etc.
My OH goes mad about the horse smell in the car, I darent tell him I've been delivering horse muck for peoples gardens in it this week :p
What you havent wrote about, or maybe even noticed yet, is the healthy glow in your face, the twinkle of happiness in you eye, and the smug feeling that you've joined the wonderful world of horse ownership and are coping - it's the best feeling in the world (after childbirth, or maybe not :D).

oh so true, I thought my face had lost the pasty colour and was a nice rosy pink. Feeling so pleased with myself tonight as we went down the road and back for the first time and he was a poppet :D

I'd rather buy something new for Edward than myself any day.
My tack gets cleaned daily...my car, annually!
I compare every cost to horse expenses...e.g. my sister: "look at my new jeans, cost £60", me: "That's a set of shoes!!"

I'm not concerned that a bucketful of hay falls out of my bra....I just want to know HOW does it get in there:D

When i'm not at the stables spending time with dee, i find myself talking about her all the time :p
I have a deal with my boyfriend - i watch the grand prix with him (which i hate with a passion its just cars going in a circle) he will have a ridding lesson
I also always compare prices of stuff to horsey equlivants like £50 new jeans 20 or so bales of hay! :o
Also get more excited about horsey shopping (buying new rugs :) ) than about shopping for me.

I'd like to add a couple more observations
eating dinner at 10.00pm seems normal
guilt about not being able to see my boy tomorrow as he will be on full livery as I'm at work then staying at my parents as my Dad's birthday :o
Thanks for reading

I'd like to also add, a new finding PARENTAL GUILT. I don't have children but I feel very, very guilty that I won't see Ozzy tonight. It's my Dad's birthday and I'm staying at my parents for the evening so he is on full livery.
I assume this guilt is normal? :o

Oh yes! You wait until you see him the next day and he gives you sad eyes that ask 'where were you and my carrots yesterday' then you'll feel just awful!
Enjoying this thread, had one of mine since I was 11 years old, so I can't recall life without her, and wonder what I would had done with my time had I not had her! Needless to say I don't think I've missed out ;)

Since I bought my first 4 months ago I now find the following rule my life:
1. I am permanently worried - is she okay? Has she hurt herself? Maybe she's gone through the fence? Maybe there's not enough grass? Maybe I should give her more hay?
2. I constantly look a mess - at work/up the yard.
3. I've given up trying to keep jods cleaning and regularly wear the same dirty pair every evening for several days (*hangs head in shame*)
4. I have to sweep my bathroom floor when I get home and take my clothes off due to the abundance of hay I seem to lose down there...
5. Being home before 11pm is an early night!
6. Pay day is the most exciting day (still!) but this time it's off to tack shops/equestrian centres instead of clothe shops.
7. I start most of my sentences "you'll never guess what happened up the yard last night..." and I find I have to explain the horsey situation first before eventually getting to the best part/punch line of my story, only to realise my work colleagues lost interest several minutes previously.
8. Happiness :D

i used to go out every weekend, would only by labelled clothes and had a flashy sports car
now, car had to go now on the hunt for 4wd, last time i went clothes shopping i accidentally went past a horse shop and left very little for clothes so went to the yard, my £180 dresses are now hanging up in the shower (that doesnt work) to make room for my jods etc, we all now practically live in wellies, going out for a night out takes up to much time, id much rather spend time at the yard, my bedroom is a tip, my stable is perfect and all my mates thing im having a mid-life crisis at 24
but i love it, OH is getting as bad as me and my little boy loves pottering around and playing with the other kids at the yard - perfect :D

These are good! :) I recently found a horse to loan after 4 years of no horses! Its amazing the changes you see in yourself!
*Wake up in the mornings with butterflies
*No longer obsess about the cleanliness/tidyness of the flat
*Feeling physically fitter/more body confident/better posture
*Generally happier, feeling of more purpose to my life
*Whole legs constantly aching - but its fiiine i dont mind!
*Always got loads of different goals & plans with him in my mind
*Always reading horse books in my spare time
*No longer care about girly/fashion mags and bottles of wine (my old vices)
*Havent thought about high street shopping since I got him :o
*Feel like I have a new close friend in my life

I have some more:
dont get taxi to station in the mornings as it's the price of two turnouts
wearing the same jods for 3 days running is no longer an issue
spending money on myself is not as much fun as buying stuff for Ozzy
i've become addicted to the weather forecast
loving every minute

Here's mine:
1) when you talk about horses at work other people glaze over.
2) dont care what I look like at anymore.
3) am looking foward to spending my first winter with Jade in a stable.
4) my car smells like a stable/tack room.
5) I get more pleasure buying something for Jade than for me.

My day revolves around yard visits, even when I'm at work.
I have no social life except popping out to tack shops and for sandwiches with yard mates.
All my money goes on the horse, not me and I don't mind! (Was going shopping for me today but he needs molasses to make him eat his supplement-far more important!)
I don't mind walking miles to catch in but will make the OH take the dogs out.
My car is utterly disgusting.
Any new clothes are usually horsey.

Oh Dear. I am in the Royal Air Force but turn up to work in tracksuit bottoms and boots, change in to uniform still with a slight smell of horse change back to jods for evening shift and ride.
I am know longer looked at like the freak as they all know by now that the horse comes first and often ask after him before my OH.....
When they see me walking funny they all know I have taken a fall!!!!
OH has stopped asking what time I will be home...
I have quite bad OCD and can't leave the yard know matter how late I am until all tack and buckets are cleaned and area out side stable has been brushed until no stray hay or straw is left:eek:

1 - My boy produces a wheelbarrow a day worth of muck - catching it on the shovel as he does it means one less to pick up.
2 - 'I can't because I've got a horse' is a feasible excuse for every possible situation I want to get out of.
3 - For every good experience there's a bad one next time - good schooling night followed by bad hack where i fall off followed by finally choosing to drink out of the bath instead of a bucket followed by refusing to stand for the farrier followed by coming over when i call him followed by......etc. It's an emotional rollercoaster, like someone said earlier, i think i've found my maternal gene in horse ownership, the responsibility and worry is overwhelming sometimes.
