We are currently with NFU for our horse insurance (we have 3) Anyone got any suggestions for a cheaper good alternative?

I have just done the rounds getting quotes and on recommendation have gone with Petplan who have a good reputation for paying out too. Watch for the excess to pay on vet's bills and if there's a claim limit.

I am with Petplan as heard they are good and will pay back quickly but did not claim yet. Will insure my filly with them as well.

I was with petplan last year didn't claim and it still went up to £429!!! So asked on here and ended up going with KBIS full vets fee all for £292. People said they were really good at paying out. x

Hi there, just a piece of info, I once asked my vets assistant who paid out for horse claims and she said Petplan and NFU, there was another but cant remember it was small co.
Might be an idea to try your vets administrators before changing.

did KBIS ask for vet certs or anything? I had a quote and have tried to get hold of them to find out before buying but end up on hold all the time!

Petplan ask for a vetting certificate for any horse under the age of 1yr, that is why i couldn't insure my filly with them.

I am with Petplan. I have no complaints about the service. Saying that I never got my free jacket. :(

Same! I thought the increase was rediculous seeing as I didn't claim and hadn't changed my policy at all

At the moment am with SEIB for my filly on vet bills as well and my 15 year old is just on death and theft - old 20 year old is not covered at all was too old when i got her - thinking about stopping it for 15 year old to cut costs - what do people think and does it go up when they get to 15 years old???

I had a really bad experience with NFU. I had a young horse who had to be PTS as he developed wobblers really badly, couple of months on when got a new one they wanted to penalise me because I'd had the other one PTS! Tried to put it up to a ridculous amount! Like it was my fault I'd had to have him PTS, was so annoyed, very unfair... wouldn't go back to now!
Now with Millin insurance and no complaints, and it gets cheaper every year!

NFU all the way 2!!!!
Claimed twice payed out quick only small excess.
Also got equipment and tack covered, it dosent have to be locked away with a certain standard lock either like most other companys. My tack can be stolen of the fence and im still covered.

I went with KBIS, half the cost of NFU and Petplan.
Also had problems with Petplan paying out for my cat when he had to have an eye removed.
Just make sure you stay well away from E&L, as they have a very poor reputation for paying out.
