I am looking into starting Le Trec with one of my horses.
I have never done this before, my horse has never done this before so I have no idea where to start

Any ideas anyone??

Many thanks in advance :)

We only started this year, and got into it by accident. A local Trec group held a Trec training day, and I stumbled across it while I was out hacking. I got chatting to one of the organisers and they let me join in the second day.

After that I did a level one event organised by the same group, and there were lots of people there that hadn't done it before. They were very welcoming and helpful. The organisers did a group course walk for those of us that wanted it, to tell us what to do at each obstacle.

The BHS website has a list of Trec clubs, so it might be worth seeing if there is one in your area. If not, there is also a list of events, including training days. I have also joined the UK trec forum, and have got loads of help from there.

i've just got back from the british championships (came 4th level 3 indv :D)

first of all, get a rulebook, the most important things, and with that you can build obstycles out of poles etc.

Then find your nearest trec club, and see what the've got on, most run training, competitions and social events.

A good place to start is indoor competitions (run through the winter), these are just control of paces and ptv, and they may run a training route. Then when the season starts again (April ish) have a go at a level 1 or 2 depending on your horses fitness, and how ready you feel!

good luck!

Thanks for the info guys :)

I am looking to see if there is anything in my area. At the moment it doesn't seem like much Le Trec goes on around here at all which is a huge shame as I would love to give it a try. Will keep looking into it :)

Just a little question, does Le Trec include jumping or just negociating various obstacles like gates and stuff ?

Thanks

there is a jump obstacle but its all totally optional and wont cost you many points to miss the jump.

Trec sounds like fun but I don't jump anything anymore. Horse doesn't jump and I don't want him jumping either but if there's an alternative route, sounds possible :)
