I had a massage yesterday with a Master Healer and trained massuse (sp) he also did some reiki on my very sore knee.
In the last couple of weeks, I have ben struggling to do Seamus, too much walking and far too many hills and stony paths... so have been taking a strong painkiller at night, and paracetamol during the day.
Also recently I havent been sleeping great, due to pain..
Well blow me down!!
I went to do Seamus after the session (a few hours after) and although knee was still sore, I was still walking reasonably well after putting him to bed.... I went to bed last night without a painkiller (dr will be pleased since they are apparently very addictive) and had a great sleep.
My op is only 5 weeks away, and I was beginning to despair that I would have to endure 5 weeks of hellish pain.. but perhaps a regualr massage and reiki will help better than regualr painkillers??
The oils used were an almond base oil with jasmine.
Anyone else ever had such a treatment to ease pain?

I don't do reiki, but am trained in massage - despite the "scientific evidence" or lack of credible S.E. to be precise, I don't think that the results can be disputed in practice. Don't get me wrong it doesnt work for everyone, or every problem but it can have brilliant effects.
One concept is that it stimulates the nerves in a different way and distracts them from the pain stimulus. The body naturally causes muscle spasms as a protective mechanism to to prevent further damage to painful area (most commonly talked about is often back spasms), and if the nerves are distracted from the pain it helps to reduce the muscle spasm as the body "forgets" and releases the tension.
Which often leads to better movement patterns after and range of movement :) it also allows you to move more normally and therefore reduces the complications from moving abnormally :)

I havnt had reiki and have only ever had one massage and I hated that. But when I come back from my Mc Timmony chiro, I sleep through the whole night, and nothing can wake me ! For an imsomniac like me, who is lucky to get 3 hrs of uninterupted sleep its fab :)
Glad youve found something that works for you julz, I hope it keeps working for you

If you have the startings of a cold, or a cold you are advised against massage as it supposedly spreads the nasty buggies round more as you aare increasing circluation, so can make you feel HORRENDOUs. However not always possible to know you are just about to get a cold ha!

I didnt have a cold or anything else, i just felt totally washed out, no energy, nothing.... apparently i could have had a lot of toxins that were released and my system was overloaded with them....

knew it wouldnt cure but bought sam [cat] a reiki session from a good pet specialist when her cancer became advanced [too old to have it removed, she had cancer before and nearly died from anaesthetic] ,and she wasnt breathing normally, after the reiki it stopped her rasping breathing for some days, and she was able to rest properly, but it came back, dad then said she was in a semi coma/sleep and took her to be put to sleep.
think its a good thing to try, though they may not like the feel of it at first because it gets very hot.

I had a friend do some reiki on my cat, who wasnt well, but vet couldnt find anything wrong... she litterally slept all day apart from when eating and toileting..it was lamost as if she was depressed.... she took 20 mins of reiki from friend.. and the very next day went out for an hour!!!
she was fine for the rest of that summer. it really is amazing stuff!!

Hi there,
I do Reiki and also massage on people and animals (as the name suggests!) and I have seen wonderful results. That's why I continue with it after all this time.
I would say if it works for you and your animals then keep it up!
We would say reiki works alongside conventional medicine rather than replacing it.
