It was a jaw dropping test - I remember getting half way through it and realising the commentators must have been just as caught up in it as me as they hadn't said a word since the start. I wonder how many more records he will make/break?!

Amazing, just amazing. I love how the horses front feet didn't look like they were touching the ground (in extended trot?? I honestly have no idea, not up on dressage names)

Can you imagine how much that horse would be worth?!

My jaw was just dropped for the whole test, it looked so effortless and soo bouncy and floaty. Looked like he had springboards under him lol.
Truley amazing

Totilas is stunning. I saw his test on net at Hickstead when he broke record last time. Would love to see him in the flesh.

Have you ever wondered how they teach a horse to bring their legs up so far? or even get all the moves?

He is an amazing horse, very accurate.

But what a shame that Gal, as AVG's pupil, trains this horse using Rollkur. And he is the epitome of what Gerd Heuschmann would call a "leg mover" - one wonders just how long he will stay sound for.

he scored 29 10's!!

it was breathtaking to watch, as was parzival who came second in the individual (but beat him in the team competition ;))

He is very very accurate but there doens't seem to be any love in it :( I can't quite put it into words but I find Andreas Helgstrand with Blue Hors Matine much more passionate...But then she isn't as accurate (but in competition terms she is still a baby at 9)

Credit to Edward Gal though :)

Fab test, but it's clear about the Rollkur comment.
No swishing of the tail, emotion, or anything else from the horse.

I don't understand your post northern Rachel, could you elaborate?

Looks flashy but I'm not a fan of the set head which in turn stilts the horses' natural movement (see beginning of walk) and also when in the canter (horse naturally moves his head) his head is 'stuck', this is probably why he cannot 'change' legs properly behind.
Whilst the rider is obviously very talented, I got rather sickened by the occasional sharp stabs he gives the horse with his spurs and also the fact that you can see where he creates lines along the horses' sides with them too.

gawd love all you textbook riders- far too common on NR of late.

he was so relaxed on the first day, but had a blip in the one times- the lap of honour at the prize giving sent him very tense for the test the next day though and he had a couple of blips again in the changes.

fantastic horse, considering hes only 9 one to watch because he can only get better!

"RollKur" is a method of training and warming up a horse to come behind the vertical, basically. Personally, I'm not a fan because it doesn't look at all natural, if not uncomfortable. It's "trapping" the horse as it will find it hard to use his muscles to move out of that neck position whilst the rider has the contact. I believe that the horses trainer uses it. That is my opinion, and I'd like it respected :)

Here's a link that can describe it better :)

I'm with you Northern Rachel, and Wonkymonkey. Front leg action very high but not a true classical extended trot. Judges of course wowed as spectacular to watch if not technically classical. However, it is competition/showmanship! Doesn't take from achievement, I still wonder at judging. Personal opinions and all should count. Also found the music rather background rather than expresive.

I'm impressed! You can tell a "real" rider from a "textbook" rider based on whether they share your opinions or not! That's pretty good  :D

I know what rolkur is, its her comment about lack of swishing tail etc. as it is ideal for the tail not to swish but to be carrier in a natural, relaxed way

well I personally can see the extension, note the hind legs are keeping up which many critics were saying they weren't, it is just that the front end is so so good. And the canter comment re: the head having briefly revisited the video I have to say I can see movement,
And I suspect the judges are probably qualified enough to be wowed only if necessary :D
The horse isn't supposed to show emotion really, except to look alert and not unhappy, this horse looks to me to be enjoying it, I would query what one expects a horse to do to show emotion???

ETA:on doing some research, it appears he and Painted Black share a sire, and his sire is a very similar stamp, as can be seen here
http://www.elitestallions.co.uk/index.php?id=13&singleid=70&L=0
so no real surprise he is doing so well, fingers crossed it doesn't affect his soundness mind.

That movement is not manufactured either - my trainer saw him during the trot up and he actually moves like that naturally.

Gal has his full brother at home as well and it apparently moves pretty much the same!

I saw a rider that compared to others that evening barely breathed - his reins are also not as restictive as others and the horse clearly loves showing off.

I had nothing to 'compare' to .....
I didnt compare, I commented on what I saw in the video.
I didnt say anything about 'rein restriction', I see a horse who is stilted in places because of the way he has been trained.

Lovely test, amazing rider and the horse is obviously HUGELY talented - really made everything look so effortless! Well deserved marks methinks.

My only personal criticism is I don't like the extended trot I think it looks forced and a little silly, but I'm by no means saying it is forced. Just I think I prefer a little less expressive movement! Well done to the dutch though - lovely lovely horse!
