As I don't have an indoor school, I'll need to have something waterproof to ride in this winter. The problem being that my current 'waterproofs' are either not so waterproof or very waterproof but not at all breathable, so I get soggy anyway through condensation.

I'm trying to decide between a hip length jacket and fleecy overtrousers (got my eye on the MH polar breeches) OR a long waterproof riding jacket.

I've seen the long wax jackets before and tbh they look fantastic, cover the leg whilst in the saddle to keep you dry but still allow for some bum and leg ventilation whereas the polar breeches look fashionable and very warm but I'm concerned about being TOO warm whilst riding.

What have you got and would you recommend it?

I have a pair of full chaps, made to measure from:

I chose cotton lined, they are waterproof and warm but not too hot and best of all they fit! :)

I like the idea of the long wax coats but imagine they would weigh alot when wet.

Also find the bum still gets wet with chaps so would have to go full trousers which can restrict movement (for me personally)... being a fine weather rider is a much easier option :p

dont waterproof chaps mean your bum gets wet?

Yep! Not keen on full chaps for that reason.

I wonder if the long jackets get your bum wet too?

I have some Musto Elite waterproof trousers. They are not cheap, but they are fab.
