surrey hacking centre

Hi ya, has anyone been here? did they have fun? I fancy a nice fast hack, the ground around us is too hard for a good gallop :rolleyes

Have you got a web link or something? I live in surrey but I've not heard of this one. Several yards around us do hacks / pub rides etc though. Might you mean one of them?

It is nice hacking they have, and they have some xc jumps too. I only went there to try out a horse though..

I phoned them about a group hack, when I mentioned some of the riders were nervous from past horses not having great brakes, the gentleman got very defensive and said 'not on my horses they haven't!'

I wasn't even implying that :o

Not been there to ride tho so can't comment on the riding.

I will say tho, I know some of their horses are ex-racers, don't assume they are all good for a gallop - Henry who Lot1983 shares much prefers walk or even stop to anything much faster (bless him!)

yeah the guy is slightly, uhm. quirky? safe to say i didn't buy his perfect horse. why would you sell a trustworthy, young horse from your hacking centre if it was perfect? *shuts mouth* ;) The horses I saw were lovely and looked safe (the one I tried was fine for her job - she was a lovely hack) but I wouldn't be going hacking if they were escorted hacks :)

I can highly reccommend Silvermere which is off the A3 at Cobham. But its probably 20 minutes from you. Their adult pub rides are loads of fun. I used to share a huge Shire X there but had to give him up a few years ago. I'm afraid I didn't know about Surrey Hacking until now!

yes silvermere is great, lovely horses, straight onto wisley which is great hacking (i ride mine over there!!)

although, have just checked prices £55 for 1 and a quarter hr hack! thats quite a lot!

I've ridden at Surrey Hacking in its early days. Went out hacking with Buck himself on one occasion. Knew a couple of the stable lads there too, when Buck had a horse called Ceramic (I think) in training. Lovely countryside. The area is quite familiar to me because I have relatives who live in Brook Lane and next to Albury Heath, and I used to spend summer holidays there.
