Anyone use orange hi viz?
How does it compare to yellow for visibility?
My dad is a rally marshall and wears orange and he says it is more visible than yellow, but I'm not convinced.

I use pink hi-viz, apparently yellow is not always the most visible. Ride along the side of an oil rape seed field in full flower and you'd not be as quick to see. (Have an accident along side this field and you'd be less visible to an air ambulance).

But rape seed doesn't tend to grow in winter where hi viz is mostly needed, I also tend to keep to roads in winter as fields are too wet.

I think orange is more visible... never thought about yellow being hidden in oil seed rape.
Hi-viz is needed at all times- horses disappear in bright weather if in shadow or trees. Many riders wear dark clothes which really obscure them.

Ditto - its not just a winter, or dark weather issue. Bright sun can obscure visibility, and particulary where there are trees overshadowing and the driver is going from dark to light. The quicker you can be seen in the distance, the quicker a driver can react and cut his speed. I recall on a bright sunny day being able to see a couple of riders several miles away down in a valley wearing hi-viz, but couldn't see the other riders they were with that weren't wearing it.

I know that hi viz is needed at all times, I have been laughed at enough for wearing it in the summer.
As we are going into winter I was trying to move the conversation away from fields and more onto road work.
I was also asking about orange hi viz, not pink.

I have an orange Hi Viz t-shirt for the summer and an orange Hi Viz waistcoat for the winter. If you ever take a photo of the yellow and orange together the orange is brighter. I did when my hubby and neighbour were on a roof and was suprised at the difference..

Orange hi viz might also be more noticeable because there is less of it, the yellow is everywhere these days.

We have orange, yellow and pink vests and wraps etc we tend to cross match them so out horses and riders have one item of each colour and the seem to stand out that little bit more. Orange and pink definately seem to stand out that bit more though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the orange was brighter/more visible. Me and Kusha went out at Skippys Mums (there was a thread on here about it) and i was wearing a yellow tabard, Kusha was wearing her new pink jacket...the pink seemed brighter (but then there was more of the pink than there was of the yellow so maybe it just seemed that way).
Maybe you could go multicoloured?!? :p;)

I am selling all my pink hi viz, so pink isn't an option.
I have 3 horses to kit out with hi viz sets so I like them all to be one particular colour (ie. Shay has yellow on purple, Murf is yellow on blue, so need another colour so I know which item belongs to which horse.)

The stupidity of some people knows no bounds, not content with taking unnecessary risks themselves they pile the peer pressure on to discourage others from taking this simple precaution.
Good on you for having your own mind!!
Regardless on the weather conditions Hi Viz is a potential life saver and mid summer can see the most dangerous conditions down that leafy lane. Personally I would like to see Hi Viz vests and hard hats made compulsary on public roads.
And which is more visable? My money is on orange but anything is better than nothing.

I used to wear yellow hi viz then switched to orange hi viz. I did find that when I wore orange hi viz, drivers seemed to slow down a lot sooner.

These are photos of photos so not the greatest and taken at different times of the year, and the yellow hi viz is a little bit older BUT!! i still think they show that orange is that bit more  than the yellow, especially if you look at J's browband, reins and disco anklets compared to my waistcoat

Tests by the powers that be reckon that orange and pink are better for rural areas and yellow is better in towns.

I tend to go for yellow, I've got an orange vest and lots of yellow stuff and would say that the drivers round here defo react sooner and are more respectful to the yellow. Mind you that may be due to the fact that they think I'm police  and who am I to deter them:D

International Orange, is the brightest hi viz one can wear. I have to wear it during hunting season if I don't want to get shot, even on my own property.
I use a bright orange helmet cover and wear a bright orange hunting Vest over my clothes.
Hunting or gun shops normally carry International Orange clothing.

Definitely orange! Our RS has orange tabards we all have to wear whenever going out on a hack...a lot of people have said to me "oh yes i've seen you lot riding around" They've got our RS name on the back too, so good advertising! Think we're the only ones round here that do that and it looks good and we are definitely noticed :)
