Cheyenne didn't have a registered name when I got him so I made his show name up, it was Colorado Blues and yes I did use it when competing.
Ace was similar, I used Ace's High to compete though his owner used Shared Interest which I also used for a while.
Q and Strike will both be competed under their registered names - Quitus De Caro and Dexter's Lucky Strike :-)
Daffy Dilly
4th Sep 2009, 11:57 AM
Daffy usually competes under Lawhill Dafydd which is his full name. :)
If I'm feeling lazy though we'll just do Daffy.

B is shown as, B Spotted With Me
Kane is Vulkano V
Rocky is High Elms Rocky Road
Tinks is Windmill Tinky Winky!!:p:eek:
Howengold
4th Sep 2009, 12:02 PM
Star is reg as Howen Golden Showers in the NF stud books, but anyone who chuckles will understand why we only use Howengold as he show name, unless we do BSPS shows with her again it will stil shortened.
Sovereign is Sovereign LAdy on her passport so we use that.
Mon-ami is A Touch of Class we either use that or Mon-ami.
Kosha is reg as Blak Majic he has a prefix too but can't find his passport totell you it as we haven't used him for showing for a while now and can't remember it.
Willow is Twightlights Child
Charlie is Maximilio Charles
Tia is just MC The Barristers' Tia Maria
And Seren is It's Serendipity!

I always use my Beautiful Babies' Show Names when competing because aside the fact I think they sound pretty (& it's a good excuse for using them :p) I don't want (now this may sound really silly but anyways :p....) any potential "Horse Thieves" to know my Horsies Stable Names, as they are both friendly (although One more so than the Other :p) & I wouldn't want them going up to anyone who might want to take them away - especially seeing as They aren't freezemarked yet, & I'd be sooooooooo devastated I couldn't even comprehend them being taken away from me, so I think that seeing as most of the Shows I go to are local anyway (not that I go to many & not that I've competed with my newest Baby Boy yet :p), it's better to be safe than sorry :D

Kally came with the name Gypsy but I changed it to Lady Kahlua :)
Tali is short for Talitha (pronounced without the H: Ta-lee-ta) but her registered name is Westways Desert Fascination. Far too long and floucy so we usually write her name as Talita in the hope the judge will pronouce it correctly

I just use his registered name - Favory Gazdag. Favory is his particular bloodline, and Gazdag is Hungarian for wealthy, and is what the Hungarian stud where he was born named him.

I registered Tia as 'Calamity Jane II' because she leaves a trail of destruction wherever she goes - the II is because there was already a Calamity Jane with a JMB height certificate.

there is a reason behind Nimbus 2000 but i do want to change it - just not sure what to!
Wasn't the Nimbus 2000 a broomstick? You could always change his name to Cleansweep Seven or even Firebolt!

4th Sep 2009, 01:49 PM
Oooh Firebolt for Nimby!! That would be awesome :D

On our little endurance/pleasure ride the other day, both our lads were just called by their stable names.
If I were to get into the competitive side with Harley, I'd use his registered name, but for local little things, they're stuck with their stable names! :D

I am going to compete Edward under his passport and racing name: Kerayasi. It's nice to know no-one else will have the same name!!
hot.to.trot
4th Sep 2009, 02:44 PM
all of them have the stable's name in beggging and some have their shownames after, but others just have their stablenames. :p
e.g.
new riders (stable) to hot to trot (show name)
or
new riders (stable) henry (stable name)

Basil's passported name is Blenheim Razzle Dazzle, although we've yet to use it!
My friend took her horse Sam showjumping and when she was asked if he had a show name she said "no, it's just Sam". When she entered the ring they said "and here is Sophie ***** with Just Sam"!.:D

4th Sep 2009, 03:16 PM
Millie's passported name is just Millie! So that's what we've competed as. I can't change her passported name because she's on loan.
Can I still make up something fancy for competition?
acw295
4th Sep 2009, 03:22 PM
Molly is passported as Molly's Midnight Magic and yes I use it for shows etc :)

Ahh mine all have boring names.Icys prefixes are the names of the places they were born.
Sól is Sól Frá Akureyri
Hali is Halastjarni Frá Siamber Wen
Odinn-Odinn Frá Ampfield
Sessa is Sessa Frá Langárfossi
Her and Sól are both from Iceland
And Kara is Kara-Lind Frá Nornabæli
All really boring! Found out Sessa's name means "Comfy seat used on a pew" How imaginative! :|
ferna
4th Sep 2009, 04:02 PM
Ferna is registered as "Kingvean Fantasia" Kingvean was the stud she was born at and Fantasia was her mothers name, yeah definately use a show name, I love hearing what everyones horses posh names are :D

Lance is registered Lancelot du lac
Lucy is registered Lucy Locket
-- that's what we compete as :)
Libby's registered name was Queen's Velvet. Her previous people called her Queenie, so I'm not sure where Libby came from!

No, I don't see the need. If either of them go affiliated we will have to have a proper name, but that's only to identify horses who have points/winnings. For unaffiliated and riding club comps I feel their actual name is sufficient. Neither of ours have registered names so just use their stable names for everything.
Same with dogs, there must be thousands of agility dogs called Sam and Max, so they need a 'show' name to identify them. Murphy is a crossbreed without a pedigree kennel name so I registered him as 'Just Murphy'.

I love explaining my horse's show name. It makes me feel clever to have thought it up.
Lucy's show name is Dija because her sire was called Black Monday and Black Monday was a day when places round the world lost loads of money (my history skillz are also amazing) A company which lost loads of money was the D.J.I.A which if you mix up the letters spells Dija.
:D

Louie is registered Mcnab of Camusericht, which is the estate he was bred on in Scotland.
Only use his registered name for M&M classes and use Louie for dressage, showjumping etc , is shorter and easier to say, seen as i cant even pronounce his 'proper' name.
Caz n Drummer
4th Sep 2009, 07:18 PM
Drummers "sunday name" is Drum Major...when we were doing county level and stuff he was Drum Major II as thats on his JMB certificate.
Once when he used to go to unaffiliated showjumping i did call him Big Jesse as he squeals like a big girl when doing his round lol.

You lot have great shownames, mine are Into The Light & Nimbus 2000 there is a reason behind Nimbus 2000 but i do want to change it - just not sure what to!
I use Thea's showname 'Brecknock Made in Heaven' - Brecknock is the breeders prefix and 'Made in Heaven' is a great song by Queen she was named after!! Mainly because its just nice to use it, its just a name in her passport otherwise. Also its amazing how many people can't say Thea....always Theo? Tia? nooooooo Theeeeaaaa (Theadora)!!!!!!!
There's a book called 'Nims Island' it was made into a film a couple of years ago..how about that one for your boy???
Dees-unpaidgroom
4th Sep 2009, 08:35 PM
Dees proper posh name which shes passported under is Monkshorn Lady Diana. However the small scale shows we have been to i have just written dee - people might think i can actually ride if i have a pony with a posh name!

Anni's is her registered name - Gilfach Anastasia.
Xanthe is just Xanthe normally or if i want to use her showname its Painted Princess.
Xena is Xena Warrior Princess.
My old Welsh was Arfonleri Matilda and no one could ever say it so it was normally just Mollie :p
Bimbambo
5th Sep 2009, 08:50 AM
Magic competes under his show/passport name - Majestic Jack :D
Sexy Sietske
5th Sep 2009, 09:15 AM
Olivia is Hollyfields Olivia (hollyfields being the stud prefix) so is nice and simple.
Nelson is just Nelson on his passport but I might think of something clever if and when we do compete but he is 'Just My Nelson' :D
Izzy is 'The Legacy' (sort of hear Izzy in there :p) as she is just that.
Jasper is Mookaite Jasper (thanks to soot :D)
Samsky
5th Sep 2009, 02:34 PM

Coquette's a registered AQHA mare, so she competes under her registered AQHA name (CS Nimble Coquette), which is what most registered horses do. Well, the horses themselves don't do it, she's awful at filling out entry forms for shows, no thumbs and all.
If the horse has a registered name, I think it should be used. Horses get sold, names get changed, but if they're registered, there's no need for their registered name to change. It lets the horse build a reputation in the competition circuit. Heaven forbid she ever gets sold, but if she did, people would still know the registered name even if her barn name changed to Sally or something.
If we ever show in the AQHA circuit, she HAS to use her registered name because that's how they keep track of lifetime points totals.
For non-registered horses, I don't think it matters as much. But if you're showing a non-registered horse, I can see that it's still nice to have an elegant/cute/funny sounding name announced at shows. Rather than hearing "So-and-so riding Billy", it's nice to hear "So-and-so on Whiskey Tango Foxtrot".

I think you will find her show name is 'Smelly Belly' i thought we agreed on that!?;)
When i occasionally show Boss, she is shown as Bosenova, which is infact her real name i just shorten it when she is at home.:)
