We have a lorry we have been trying to sell, well the other day a chap we know came to our house to see if we would 'barter' for it - in other words exchange it for something of his ...

The thing of his is a ...........

3 year old TB colt

We popped to see the colt to help decide and he is a beautiful thing - and he's called Nottingam - now this colt was born and bred in a small village of Bulgaria, how on earth did they think of the name? - my hubby is from Nottingham - so it was quite spooky and defiantly helped with hubby's decision.
So going to see Notti again today, see him work a bit and if he goes well - then we will have another member of the family :D

Would this sort of thing happen in UK?
I love the world of bartering here - last thing we did was exchange a jeep for 6 tons of grain :D

sounds like it was fate !!! How spooky

I wonder if anyone wants to swap a pony for a broken Rangerover !:o

WOW! How cool! Seems like it's ment to be! I wonder what the going rate to swap a written off VW golf is? Maybe an aged shetland pony :D

It's 100% normal to 'swap' here all the time! It's a national passtime of Hungarians - they call it 'csere-bere' (swap dealing). If we look at a horse, the first thing the dealer asks is what we have to swap for it!!!

Sometimes it works for the good...though not always!

Good luck with Nottingham! :)

well just got home after going to see Notti again .. he hasn't been out of the stable for a week and is still a baby - had a mad moment but soon settled .. and has lovely paces even though it was fairly muddy underfoot and sloped ground... they say he has been broken and ridden but i think i'll bring him back to basics .. heres some photos .. who could resist eh? :D
Should bring your old cars over here .. they love em :D

Is there any way they already knew your husband was from Nottingham and that is why they told you the horse was called that? Presumably you will have it vetted (yeah I know, I'm cynical)

*Gobsmacked*! How fabulous! Are you going to do it? I think it's an eminently sensible system if you have something they want and vice versa-look at the Swap shop thing on here!

He's a lovely looking lad. Will you geld if you get him?

Thanks everyone :D .. just done the deal with the owner i'll pick Notti up tomorrow or the day after.

Buttonmoon - Nottingam is his name on his passport, which was done when he was a year old :D and its actually spelt without the H but near enough for me - we don't really have vetting before buying a horse here :o

Cinammontoast - Don't know whether to geld him or not, i think and wait and see how he is for a while. i worked with stallions in Spain, love them and always wanted my own .. so may leave him entire

Wow, that is pretty neat. I would just make sure that if you do go through with it, get the "barter" in writing..along the lines of saying you sold each for $1 or something - just in case!

For a 3yo TB colt, he's beautifully put together. How is he bred?

He is stunning!! I wish we did stuff like that here - I think Ritchie's old owners would have thought I was a complete nutter if I had offered them my car in exchange for him:rolleyes: :p
