if you read my other post you know milky has been going around with her head 10feet in the air:rolleyes:

well, someone told me the following and i would like to know if this will really work

bring horse to a halt and pull back slightly on one rein. this may at first cause the horse to bring her head up but keep the contact and the horse will then put the head down to escape the pull, when the horse does this release and give the horse a lot of praise. practice this, with both reins, then do it at the walk... then trot... then canter.

it sounds to easy, but will this work?

I'm not sure if it will work I've been lucky enough not to have that problem.

I say just try it see if it does work if not try something else.

Best of luck **Gemma**

actually what you're supposed to do (if tickling the inside rein doesn't work) is to hold your elbows steady at your side and open your hands, make sure the elbows stay put, the horse should drop his nose and then you can immediately bring your hands in and give him praise. this can be done at and speed.

Another good way to get the horse to drop it's head (it might take awhile though) is to trot for ten strides or so and then stop and immediately back up keep backing until the horses head drops a bit and then go right back into the trot (this won't work at all if you have any walk in the middle), keep doing it until the head just comes down. Sometimes it takes forever though so if you do that be prepared for a wait, the other way is faster, but this is also a good way to get the horse really listening to your aids...:)

you shouldn't ever have to pull back to get what you want from a horse, that encourages leaning on you, and you probably dont want to hold their head up all the time! LOL.
