I've just drawn a horsey picture and would like the criticism of NR:)
Preferably no "Is that a goose or a horse?!?!" but " 'xyz' needs to be a different shape" :p I know there are some really good artists on NR and it would be great to know how to improve.
Not the greatest picture I know as the back end kind of fades away (not like that in real life) but I have tried to make more of a contrast on Photoshop.

Very good!
Something about the head isn't right but I can't pin point...not long enough, perhaps? And I THINK the ears are too close together, but not sure!

I agree, its brilliant but I think it is the ears that are too close?

That's amazing. Absolutely beautiful! Well done! The shading and everything.. it's just beautiful!
Did you do it from a picture? :) It's hard to say without seeing the original, but does the right shoulder look too "jutty" to you? It's quite pointy, but then maybe that is what it would look like in real life, I honestly don't know!

the ears look ok to me as i'm guessing that is a crabbet arab or something along those lines.
the left shoulder maybe needs to be less severe

Thanks Guys !!:D
I couldn't get the ears right, on the pic the arab's ears are close - but I just couldn't get the shape right so they crept further together on my drawing, lol:p
I got it from this (http://www.klue.com.my/assets/0000/9292/arabian_horse_boss_std.jpg) and then flipped it, I can't draw horses looking right :o (I have loads of pics under my desk, all of them looking left.... I should really practice them looking right:rolleyes:)

Body, legs, and feet are all fine. Ears are a little close, and eye's just a touch out.
If you got to my profile page you can get a feel as to what i mean, as i have a lot of my own art work in there.
All in all though very good work

I love the picture.... the shading and detail are beautiful. It very classical. You are very talented.
The angle of the head makes it look a little foreshortened but that is not a criticism that is the pose of the horse.

Ah yes, I take back what I said about "juttiness", it's like that in the picture!
You're very talented! :)

Oh well done if you have changed it round, I always find that quite difficult.
The pic has all the basic hard work elements there and to be honest it will only get better with practice - But you do have the essential already in place.
Also not sure if you have used a tortillion (It may just be an american term) as I got it from an american book. But it's paper wrapped in a cone shape and you use it to blend or shade. It's a fab contraption and really brings it to life. (PM me if you want anymore info)

Really nice! The back leg is slightly too thin near the top but for a line drawing it is a good picture. You should tone it up and put some shadow and highlights on it to bring it to life :D

I think its great, and the ears look fine to me!
You do have some quite dark lines outlining and in the image, shading for definition instead of putting in lines will work with you really well especially for the mane and muscle tone/structure and lighting etc and it will make it appear less flat :D

Excellent first attempt! If anything, I'd suggest the eyes are a little too high on the head, and you've forgotten the cheek ridge on the outside of his face.
Next time you're working from a picture to copy, turn the copy upside down and draw it that way up. Don't turn your sketchpad round until you're finished, that's cheating!

The eyes and ears are slightly 'off', but otherwise it's lovely http://www.mazeguy.net/happy/applause.gif

I like it as a drawing, the picture is really good :)
But when comparing it to the one you copied there are some differences ;)
We were always taught not to smudge with the finger as I think you have poss done ? oh also good advice i was given years ago is to make real contrast, ie use dark and light sections where it is on the pic as the picture will never lie! but it is a good drawing.
Kc..

Having had a look at the pic you drew from i think it's very good! I would have agreed about how dramatic the left shoulder is until i actually saw the pic as it actually is. Very very good, feel fre to draw either of my two - sure i have plenty of 'left' pictures lol! Your very very talented!

Thankyou all very much, I have taken it all in :)
Yes i smudged with my finger on the body - A terrible habit I know but I become impatient :o
lottie.dot - They sound interesting, I might look into buying some of them next year ( I'm taking art for my GCSE's )
And to make it clear I flipped it on paint!! could never flip it round otherwise ;)
karsteine - your art work is amazing!!
Again thank you all, you have helped me lots :D
