I once fed my fizzy IDxTB loan mare Apple Chop and then wondered why she escaped from her stable and run over my dad.

Ridden him in an ill fitting saddle...:( Not fed him enough fibre and banged down hard feed to keep his weight on. :o Smacked him through sheer frustration..:o And before anyone has a go at me for this, ask yourself if you have ever disciplined your horse for something you shouldnt have.

Many things! Mostly things Ive said or acted. I am alot more knowledgable now and do cringe at the different rugs Flo used to wear because I liked them.....

Thats what I kinda think! I got in a strop with B this morning because he ran off in the school in canter - When we finished I untacked him and dragged him to the field telling him to walk on (he likes to look at things) wasn't until half way up the track I went - 'FGS women get a grip you'd be gasping if someone else was acting like that!' and Gave him a cuddle and walked next to him after that - after all yesterday I called him in the field and he came gallopping over to me :o

Rode Quanah in a (western-style) Tom Thumb (it was the bit he came with) - and then put it in backwards!

Not to worry. Quanah let me know something was wrong by biting my toes whenever I asked him to turn. Didn't take me long to get around to fixing the problem!:D

Flo Pony - What is unforgiveable is if you DONT realise where you have gone wrong and continue to make the mistakes.

We both realised and gave ourselves a good shake therefore they forgive us.

Buying my Conemarra x arab when she had just turned 3 and I was 12

She was NOT a novice ride and although she was sold to me as broken, looking back I doubt she was!

I suppose I can blame mum for that one lol

She turned into a nice horse but I think her training could have been approached differently. :o

When Flo was at home I used to tie her up for her dinner in her stable, tie up her haynet and sort stuff out then untie her and say goodnight......although once I did forget to untie her.....tied to her rug rack (via sting) all night....bless her!!!

Also one of the girls who shared her didnt give her her haynet one night, and I relly regret not checking her....which I did every other time!! I always double check now!!

She also escaped and ate half way down a bin full of mix once......

Oh the patience of the first ponies......

Yup, I've done that, when I had my first pony, the other kids on the yard had been picking on me for whatever reason, and when I was riding the pony was being a bit obnoxious (mostly due to her never having been schooled properly) and I lost the rag at her http://www.mazeguy.net/sad/ashamed.gif, I gave her a couple of hard slaps with my whip, she came to a standstill and started shaking and I realised what I'd done ... I only hope she understood when I apologised to her http://www.mazeguy.net/sad/worried.gif

And then I wondered why he tanked off with me every time I got on :o

I once brought Cherry into her stable early one morning, to spend the day in the shade and out of the heat of a very hot summer's day. It was only at about 4.45 in the afternoon as I was preparing to leave the office to go home that I remembered that I hadn't filled her completely empty (and upturned to dry) water buckets!!!!

:o

ETA: I rang a friend at the yard in a panic, who duly filled one of my trugs and Cherry didn't even drink anything! Doh!!!

Sheer horror of this: I put the saddle on backwards on my share horse when I had to tack him up on my own when I first started riding.:o:o:o

I put a bit on a bridle the wrong way round and luckily realised before I put it on the horse!

Forgot to take off Beau's headcollar when I put him to bed one night and got a huge telling off from the groom the next morning, saying he'd noticed and removed it.

I couldn't get his bridle on him the first time I tacked up Beau-he kept running away from me-in the stable!!!! (Didn't realise he'd never been in a stable before!)

Fell off Boomerang when I forgot to tighten the girth cos I was so excited to ride him after I hadn't for ages-cue CT in a crumpled heap on the floor-luckily, he always walked away from the block as soon as I put my foot in the stirrup. Never thought I'd be grateful for his lack of manners!

Probably thousands more but they stand out.:o

Left Doey's stable door not quite slid into the little catch...she escaped and had fun wandering up and down the barn aisle all night chatting to her neighbours. Thank God she didn't eat all the breakfasts we leave outside the horse's individual stables!

Oh, and got all tacked up, ready to go for a hack so spent ages getting the curb on the pelham bridle right. Then mum goes 'shouldn't you do up that top strap?' (throatlash) not quite sure there would have been much point in the pelham if the bridle came off!!!

I did Nadias girth up one hole and walked her into the menage, put the step next to her and she kept moving away from it...after about 5 times i was getting so mad but did manage to quickly get one foot in the stirrup when the saddle slipped down and Nadia walked off resulting in me landing on the floor as I'd forgotten to tighten up the girth. Could have landed on the METAL step had nadia not walked off.....she was telling me wasn't she..lol

Got on Nadia one day, went off with a friend for a gallop round the fields, was having a nice time when my friend said to me "Wheres your hat" Luckly my horse is brilliant but still ended the hack at that point.

ginny!
12th Sep 2009, 08:44 PM
Left the tackroom door unlocked with Ginny unsupervised. (The tackroom is also the feed room)
All I heard was mum shouting at me to come quick then showing me Ginny with her head through the door  Ran up to find Ginny had taken the lid of the dustbin and unraveled the feed bag!! *too smart for her own good*

And thought, stupidly, that Ginny would come with fitting tack. Funnily enough her bridle was pony size (she needs a full noseband and cob bridle) and her bit was too small. The saddle fitter couldn't believe it when he saw her saddle :( Thankfully I had only ridden her in it a couple of times.

Where do I start...

When I was a kid tacked up Pebbles, wondered round to the school just about to get on... and realised that the bit was under his chin instead of in his mouth:o

The other day when I thought that the new Dun show pony was in fact the Dun yearling (I did wonder how he'd suddenly learnt to tie up!)

And countless other things I've probably blanked from my memory!

Been there, done that!!!

Put rugs on backwards, put rugs over a poor ponies head, tacked up and got out of the yard - forgot a bridle!!!! Good job Joy is so responsive to seat aids :o

Yup just discovered this about Ritchie. I feel awful -though apparently its not too bad. Getting proper saddle fitter out asap and new saddle. I'm so worried about all his tack now. Wanna get it all checked..and his teeth done - they told me he was done a few months ago:rolleyes: but I don't know how much I believe now.

Also, with a share, I forgot to do the girth up properly and slipped right round and off :o V dignified ;)

Riding on a green horse as a green rider on a saddle that was just washed on a narrow trail Ive never been down (was beside an electric fence) with no stirups!

When I got my horse I kept him where I bought him. The lady had a saddle that she wasnt currently using, and the saddle fit him well enough. The only problem was I had to wash it (It was so dirty i had no choice but to wash the entire thing) and put stirrups on it. So of course just before I ride I wash it then I get Trooper tacked up, but I couldnt get the stirrups on, so I said ehh I dont need them.
So I took him into the arena and he was well behaved so I disided to take him down one of the shorter trails, he really liked the trail so I decided to take him through it again, but I accadently went down the rong one he touched the electric fence and took off. I fell off and chiped my wrist.

Boy I was stupid!;)

leaving the jockey door on my lorry open with my horse not tied up tighlty so he could eat grass...he stuck his headk through the door and ate the bucket of food :o he had one foot on the step thing (not a pull down one, like a bar thing) and was getting right in! everyone was laughing and i didnt know why and then saw him. oops!

Leaving my horse tied up when i went to find a friend...we were walking round the corner and i always ask "is he there?" and she always replied "nope" this time she said it on auto...he wasnt there! he had wandered off up the fields! oops- remeber to tie a proper knot, horse can un do them otherwise! :D

When i had a hangover at camp one year, i put my foot in, and pushed so hard off the ground i just went over the other side, infront of everyone..so embarrassing! the guy instructors didnt stop taking the p1ss out of me for the rest of the week !! :o

i think the other one at camp was when we had a water fight and i grabbed a bucket out of my horses stable and forgot to shut it! he wandered off- everyone was chucking water everywhere, and was just munching away over the hill! i was like OMG where is my horse? and we were all running round trying to find him, finalyl found him! thankfully hes grey so we could see him as was dark...

Once I prepared my share Horses stable for the night, had layed bed, tied his haynets up and put his dinner in. Only i forgot to actualy put him in the stable :o I'd left him tied up outside.

Realised about an hour later and rung my friend who had to told me she'd just put him in as he was getting very agitated outside and didnt know where I'd gone :o

Fabio's Filly!
13th Sep 2009, 06:51 PM
Running late to meet a friend for a hack one day i'd gone and opened the gate out of our yard before bringing Fabio in - i always normally bring him in first then do it. I then went and caught him with just a headcollar - no lead rope, which again i don't normally do - and when i was bringing him out of the field a big gust of wind came and spooked him a bit so he lurched back and in doing so pulled out of my grip. That spooked him more and he went up the yard and out of the open gate which goes onto the road. Luckily we don't get many cars come past us but when they do they normally do so at quite a speed. I was beside myself he'd run out in front of a car, and couldn't believe for the sake of saving a few minutes i'd been so stupid. I ran out after him and luckily there were no cars and he'd run up the verge - came to me as soon as i called him. I was so thankful he was ok, and still feel sick thinking about what could have happened. Will never do that again, lesson learnt!

OMG in the short time I've had Tia, the list is rather large! But the worst was the first night I had her, she was in a different field with a shed. I left the door open with all her hay and hard feed in there! I had completely forgotten. I got there the next morning, and of course she'd had a bit of a look, but, thank god, had only nibbled the hay and hadn't managed to get her head in the feed, could have been a lot worse if she had eaten the feed - I dread to think!

I was once asked to put a field rug on a tacked up pony while it waited for it's lesson to start, cos it was a cold winter day. I hadn't ever had to do rugs before and I put the rug on inside out, with the muddy side down so the saddle and pony got all muddy! Oops! I feel like a right plank thinking about this now :o
