If he carries on like this he'll be living on his own in a matter of weeks

He's being too agressive and dominant in the field. He is 6 and a gelding :p
All the other liveries are getting fed up of him - I still love him though but I can see their point. Any ideas how to get him to settle down more.

I've had him a few months and he lives in a herd of 6 geldings (used to be 8 but two have moved fields because of him) :o:rolleyes:

I feel so bad :(

bosses them about really

bites and kicks occasionally. I was told today he has charged someone taking their horse out  I have also seen him attempt to mount one of them.

Most of the time he will just go up to a horse, put his ears back and threaten it, it will move and he will go back to eating. It's not all one sided though, they fight back. He comes in worse off than the others, havent seen a scratch on any of them

Depends how bad it is! They are probably just trying to sort out a pecking order given he's not been there that long and he's been moved around quite a bit.

I don't know how to sort out the charging thing - being on the recieving end and it is v scarey:eek::rolleyes:

You said that he has tried to mount another gelding. They can do that as an act of domincence, but just a couple of thoughts, was he gelded late ? and dont know what they do to test for rigs but maybe thats worth a go ?

I've sadly no idea when he was gelded, can them being gelded late make them more dominant?

I know a couple of rigs and he doesn't seem like them. Also he has no intrest in the girlies, just like fighting with the boys  will bear it in mind though

thanks :) any other ideas?

If he's just approaching others with ears back, I would echo what someone else said - they're probably just sorting out pecking order. They are natural herd animals after all and need to establish who's boss!

Has he actually caused any harm to any others or are people just over-reacting?

I think they are overreacting but don't want to cause a fight with them.

One horse came in with a bite (but no proof it was mine that did it)
Another came in with a scraped leg, again no one saw who did it

And thats it as far as I know.
My ones always coming in with scrapes and cuts  saw him the other day get bitten on his face - he didn't fight back. Also seen him kicked and he did not kick back.

He does do some of the cuts himself (he always has his head stuck in the blackberry bushes :p)

It is a big field btw, but not much grass now.

If its any help Ritchie always comes in with little kicks and bites quite often, and he gets on really well with his field mates. Its just horses being horses - unless they are getting seriously hurt I would advise owners just to wait it out and see. If he really wanted to hurt them - in a malicious way - he would have by now surely? (correct me if im wrong:o)

There was one horse at my yard who was v agressive, more so than yours by the sound of things, and it nearly killed another horse (literally touch and go for it from what I hear!) He was put in with mine and you could tell it was more agressive - v deep kicks and constantly going at him even though Ritchie was staying well away.
