Was poking around at Benj last night (like you do!) and noticed that he had a stronger digital pulse than normal (either that or I just found it for the first time!). I know it's one of the classic signs of laminitis, but he's not showing anything else. He's not overweight, he's really fit, was quite happy to trot and canter round and wasn't standing funny, looking miserable or anything. Could the increased pulse be simply cos yesterday was about 5 degrees warmer than it's been for ages?

Possibly. Maverick is breathing much more heavily at the minute with this warm weather, so i suppose that would cause the pulse to increase.

Very likely, especially if there is no stiffness in the shoulders.
If you are worried reduce his grass intake, especially at this time when the grass is growing so fast.

Relief!! Thanks guys. Back to normal this morning, though that might have something to do with him keeping the weight off his feet - 10am and they were both still in bed :p Who was it said there is always one standing guard? :D

You remind me of myself - Polo is prone to laminitis and has got so used to me checking his hooves that he tries to shuffle them out of my way whenever he sees me:D None this year though - fingers crossed!

Hi Zingy, Its funny that you should say about the whole laminitis thing cos I used to be the same. I'd panic at any sign that could possibly even connect to laminitis! Rusty was prone too. As the rest of the replyies have said it was proberbly cos of the weather.
Hope he doesn't get laminitis. I'm still paranoid about it with my 15.2hh horse cos I've had some bad times with Rus and laminitis.
So glad to hear he's fit and well, keep it that way:D :D

Thanks. It's good to know I'm not the only one who's completely neurotic!
Did find a website though that even for me could be going a little bit far. You could install a camera in your stable and have live video playing to a website so you could watch your horse all day at work  Can you imagine it?! For one, you'd get no work done. Then you'd be pointing stuff out to people all day who really weren't interested like 'Aw look - he's having a drink' or 'Hmm 5th dropping in the last hour' :D
