It's finally arrived..... AUTUMN!! I was sat in the car, looking at the temp gage... 14c:eek: but it felt more like 10:eek: the wind chill that is:o
Tried to put my yearlings thin indoor on, but it wouldn't go round his belly (full of grass:rolleyes:) so he had to wear his thin outdoor instead (was going to put it over the indoor, but failed miserably...)
Will be using his lovely new fleece instead tomo, when I get it out of storage...
He now proudly sports 1 fleece, 1 lightweight outdoor, 1 med outdoor, and a heavyweight.. a spare med weight is winging is way to me in a week:D
Oh he does look snug as a bug in a rug in them!

With my yearling growing fast, I'll soon be breaking the bank:rolleyes: already spent £100 on rugs, and thats not including another £100 going next week on more rugs.. he's going to be expensive this winter:D..
Good job I love him!!:)

I agree. Hope it's a nice crisp cold Winter this year. Love it. Can't beat coming into the house and getting all warmed up, knowing the horse is snug in his/her rug or stable.
Bring it on!!:D

I know exactly how you feel lol i got my lad as a foal and he is 3 now, i am on my 3rd set of rugs! They are expensive but i have been lucky as he doesn't trash them so i can sell them on when they do not fit anymore!

I feel awful cos I didn't put my mare's rug on tonight (she's an Arab, and a bit wimpy). I'm determined she's going to get a nice thick coat this year though, so I'm holging fire with the rugs for as long as possible.
I also hope we get a good cold winter this year. Just love frosty mornings :)

Now I feel bad. Tyler is out with no rug on. He hasnt been clipped since last October as he wasn't in work then, so has a winter coat, but feel bad. Fortunately he still has loads of grass to keep him going!!!
Definately been a turn in the temperature. Fingers crossed it stays frosty and not rainy

I can't wait 'til their in at night and i can tuck Riley up in his bed. Means it's easier to ride because a horse will be in for company so he won't panic about being in his stable on his own. :)

Yeah, my family all had toast cravings last night, must be the cold! However, this week has been the best weather for months - after 3 months of it, the rain has actually stopped :).

I got up for a run at 6:30 and it wasn't quite completely dark but it was pretty much there... I'm having to reroute so I don't have to run by the scary canal in the dark now!

Went down the yard very early this morning and for the first time I actually reached for my (hubby's) fleece
Ok by the time I reached their field I was warm enough and took it back off again but it made me realise how the colder darker months are drawing in.

I think I'm not accustomed to the drop in temperatures ... it was about 12 degrees lastnight and I was freeeezing!
Even though it will be cold for me, I didnt think I would ever say it but I'm looking forward to winter!
The fields at our yard are just mud during winter so I'm looking forward to not having to constantly watch the grass to make sure mine doesnt get footsore!
I'm also looking forward to not having to struggle with my horses weight.
Like everyone else has said, I would like a cold winter but not wet ... cold and wet is horrid.
However there are things I'm not looking forward to:
toes and fingers nearly falling off
probably ending up with chilblains :(

Car reckoned it was 16'c at 5.15am this morning but I still had a jumper and a sweater on, even had the heating on in the car  - seems odd considering that in the spring and it is the same temp we're all out in tee-shirts :D:rolleyes:
Ponios are still out nekkid, but it is dry at the moment - when it starts raining I'll see how they are. I'm aiming for the haffie to go pretty much rugless as he's not doing anything, but I can see Rosie taking herself off to the stable if she gets too cold :D

I couldn't believe it when I went to put his thin indoor quilt on.. he's been out in a 3/4 acre field with my other horse since a week ago.. I couldn't get the belly straps to meet...BIG GRASS BELLLLLY:p...
I may have to add another quilt on my must buy list:rolleyes::D one with longer belly straps!!
