Theres a great film called 'phar lap' about the Australian race horse.
The wild stallion.
The black stallion films [quite a few of those]
Flicka.
The red pony.

Hidalgo is better than I expected, and obviously the new Black Beauty with Sean Bean, but get the tissues ready for that one.
International Velvet is really good too, but I could never work out if that horrible x counntry fall was real or not and it creeped me out...the bit where Anthony Hopkins said that some didn't make it back or something to that effect...and the bit in the plane :(
