Lets say over the past three years how many times have you and your horse moved yards?

I have been lucky and have been at my yard for over 12 years now and my old mare considers it her home. She is so contented and relaxed. When I first got her I did move a few times and she coped with it very well and each move seemed positive, apart from the previous one to where I am now. I moved her to a friends yard which is a working farm with cattle and sheep. It was a lovely picturesque yard but Adella never ever settled. Her bed was trashed every morning, it literally had rings in her bedding where she had been constantly turning round. She was horrible to ride out, she threw me a few times, backed up and tbh was scarey to ride. I think it was the cattle and sheep although she did get used to them, but who knows. A friend of mine has just left my yard (last week) and she is now worried as her pony appears very chilled but think it actually is depression. Moving can be a traumatic thing, and we must think what is right for BOTH.

I was at my old yard for just under a year, and have now been at current yard just over a yr.

Well with my old pony at one point we had to move her 3 times in about a year or maybe less!

3 times in 5 years

first yard was when i first got pony - left because winter turnout was a little crazy (can't walk a mile on the road in the dark after work to get horse in, and paying about £15 for the yard to do it was not an option!) and it was quite expensive

second yard (next to first one!) - summer turnout not good, vastly overstocked, horses fighting over no grass ...

third yard - walking distance from the first two - very nice, but winter turnout a bit tricky :o stayed there until we moved out of london though :)

then moved to brighton :)

angel settled nicely each time :)

We've been at 4 yards in the last 3 years - I went to uni and tried 2 different yards in Oxford, then when I came back he spent a while at the yard I was working at, then 2 years ago we moved to our current yard and have been here since.:)

I moved my last horse twice, once due to cost and once due to distance. We don't plan to move unless we get our own land now.

Moved yesterday and don't plan on doing it again in a hurry!

OH had been on old yard for 12 years, and we've had our second horse there for 7 years. Can't believe how much stuff we had to move, but to be fair we did stock up on hay and straw to take with us, so that filled most of the horse area on the first run! Moved everything on Sat, got stables ready at new place then took horses on Sunday. We probably could have taken everything with the horses in one lorry load if it wasn't for the hay and straw.

I've moved 4 times in the last 3 years! Before that, I'd been on a yard for about 10 years!

I only moved as we moved house back in 2006, i was happy there but the yard owner decided to close (it was just a private house) and her daughter had got another horse so they were running hort on grazing.

After that I moved to another yard but they only offered part or full livery, no DIY which I prefer, also they don't offer 24/7 turnout but their facilities are fab and it's a lovely, friendly yard within walking fistance from home. I decided to leave as I found a yard that offered DIY and 24/7 turnoutbut there arena was quite small and the sprinkler didn't work so it got very dusty (indoor arena) so when I found out my old yard had started offering DIY places, I moved back so I was only away about 4 months!

I'll be staying put now for a long while hopefully! Apart from when he comes with me on holiday to my parents in North Wales!

I have never moved ! The ponies themselves have moved before (obviously) - though I think they've each been with me about 3 years now. Tiny has been moved the most and is the most insecure.

Why do you ask ... are you having trouble finding somewhere you're happy with ? You seem like a really nice person to get along with, so I'd find it hard to believe you were a perennial yard-hopper ! Are your local yards are full of essex yardLoons ?

i've only moved twice in 17 years of horse ownership. i should have moved off my last yard much faster, but a lack of appropriate alternatives prevented me.

Oh gosh, I feel that I will be worthy of the booby prize with this question.

Um... in the last three years, I moved Cherry twice and then the third time she went on loan to the ladies who ended up buying her. Ludo got moved 4 times (5 if you include the collection from his buyer) and I've had Roo just over a year and he's moved five times. In my defence, my husband decided to change his career and we relocated to Shropshire at the end of Feb... but Roo's been at three yards since we arrived here. I have NO plans to move him from the wonderful yard we're at now though :o:o:o

I've been at 3 places and don't intend to move again.

1st place I didn't like the way I was treated by YO as an unpaid skivvy despite paying well over the odds for grazing.

I then moved to a field which had no facilities at all except auto troughs and a shed! My and field mate and I paid per horse. We got on well but she wanted more facilities and moved across the road where there was a big barn with stables, electric, hot water and light. The person I rented through then decided not to keep the field on and recommended me to the owner. I then took on the field and got in 2 liveries.

I needed to move Joy away when they got a new pony which didn't fit with the herd (they bought a stallion thinking he was a gelding). Obviously it was going to be a problem for them to quickly find somewhere for a stallion and 2 other horses so I moved her across the road onto my ex field mates field temporarily until the new liveries found a new home for their horses. Then I realised how nice it was to have that barn!

I now rent my own field over there but have kept on my original land too and sub-let that out.

I keep it on as my fall back. If I ever need to move my 2 from where I am now then I can give notice to the person renting my other land and move my 2 back onto there. I love being able to decide how much grass my 2 will have and making my own decisions. Also it's hard to get 24/7 365 turnout round here so I'll be keeping all 9 acres on just in case.

ive moved my horse once in 2 and a half years ... approximately 4/6 weeks after i bought her. i wanted more turnout as i know she would have gone crazy (chestnut mare!) with little or no turnout over winter. really glad we moved, she is much more settled where she is and gets the turnout she needs :)

I've moved twice. The first yeard was fantastic. Very small yard, but great facilities (except the flooded arena in winter). It was where I bought Daisy from and I was able to learn lots from her previous owner. I eventually moved Daze because I couldn't afford the fees anymore and the new yard was closer. But the new yard was horrible and full of empty promises and the fees kept jumping drastically in the space of a few months. I was planning to move Daze and while looking for a new yard for her, I moved into my new hourse, where my landlords had paddocks in the backyard so Daze ended up coming home. I also have a wonderful instructor who lives 10 minutes down the road, so I use her arena.

Since I bought Tyler in 2007, we have been to 4 yards in total.

Yard 1 - Yard 2 - Yard 3 - Yard 2 - Yard 4 - Yard 2 - Yard 3

Seem to have rotated in 2 years, however we are now settled. It was hard as I hated moving Tyler and unsettling him, but I thin I am fortuante as Tyler seems to settle quickly and is very easy going.

Owned Rosie for 18months, moved once-reason- asked to go after
I had a moan off about some horrible people at my yard and then the posts were found on NR, best thing that has ever happened to me and T, we are so happy now and have over double the grazing all to ourselves plus a menage and allowed to use whatever bedding we want too.
Never had the guts to move so being kicked off was a blessing.

Moved my daughters pony 3 times.

First place not enough turnout and poor lad was going nuts.

Second place was my friends, who kindly said I could keep pony there until I got sorted. Could have made it permanant but didn't want to risk friendship.

Third and present place 24/7 turnout, very happy pony.

finn has been moved (including the move when i bought him) a total of

5 times since i bought him 4 yrs ago. the one time i moved him though was because the vets advised me to, the land was poisoning him and he had liver fluke.

I've moved Flo 3/4 times in 3 years. She was briefly where I worked (with Jess) then moved to a yard with them when I left that job. 3 months later I moved them to a field as they had broken 4 fences in that time at the yard and none of us were happy. I was there for just over a year, and I moved to a yard nearer to work as I wanted a school for Jess and better hacking. I was there just under a year and moved at the end of June to the yard where I am. As I no longer have Jess I moved somewhere with a school and lovely people close to the woods and bridleways. Many people have been at the yard Im at now for years!!

3 times. The Christmas before last we lost our stables and grazing as it was all rented and the original owner wanted it back, so we moved to share a yard with a friend. We moved again last November because when Tojo was pts and Charlie went to Uni with my sister someone else moved into the spare boxes, and i had already agreed to take Spangles from the Sanctuary, so we moved to a friend's farm. I moved Tia again a couple ofweeks ago because having managed to find a brilliant home for Spangles, Tia was on her own. Although she was happy enough through the summer, she had started to get a bit depressed. luckily a stable came available at the big yard down the road. She seems very happy there with her new friends, and i am enjoying being there with a lot of my horsy friends that I have known for a long time.
