i know people get fed up with these threads but i just can't see why there is such a hurry to start so young.

Poor thing :( I don't mind long reining on roads etc. at that age, actually, I'm all for it, but breaking in at that age is far too young.

Why on earth have they put those rein things* on so tight?? He overbending & looks so uncomfortable. Hate that last pic - poor boy

* no idea on the proper name:o

do you mean side reins?

the roller in the last pic is not fitted correctly, it's way to far forwards.

One word.... MONEY.

I think some think it's easier and more profitable to sell a horse that's been "backed" rather than one that hasn't.

Breed, back then sell on for profit.

or this 2yo says broken to drive!

i'm curious as the chain wouldn't be a selling point if pig to lead

I'd Rather pay to keep them for an extra few years and then get some decent money for them when they have been broken properly. I dont understand why people have to rush everything and ruin horses! :(

They sometimes break them to drive at 16/18 months old so i would be alarmed at a 2 y.o to be honest. I do think its wrong though i wouldnt dream of backing a 2 y/o.

id rather back my own than buy a youngster thats already started

i dont think these people realise they lose a lot of potential customers like us who go 'thats not right' and worry about the damage thats already been done
