If you were riding a new horse (for the first time) in the school and you over heard some one putting you down to others, bascially saying you were no good, would you say something or would you just leave it?

Ooh it's quite a tricky one :/ but tbh I'd probably leave it.

Them gossiping and being bitchy about you is really getting them where? .... NO-WHERE!! so if they want to do it then let them carry on, they'll soon get bored when they get no retaliation :) and their doing it to make themselves feel better about their own problems! :o

I'd probably just laugh at them on my way past! Idiots.

If I could, I would make it known that I had heard and roll my eyes at them. To be honest, I'd just leave it, but I'm all for an easy life and I'm pretty thick skinned ;)

I haven't said anything yet.... i might just leave it this time and if anything is said again i will say something. But it really made me feel bad, as im not a bad rider at all but this person has a habit of making me think i am. Then in the same breath will say something like ..'he's going well or he looks good'....!!

leave it! at the end of the day it's your horse and your riding and if they don't like it ... well, not a lot they can do about it really, but not worth having an argument over i suppose.

the amount of times i've heard whispering at the side of schools etc. when i was riding (mostly at the first yard we were at!) ... heck, *i* am having a good time, my pony is having a good time so NER NER NER!

I'm not saying you are no good as ii have never seen you ride and probably never will.. BUT..

SO what if you are?? You are able to get better with time and lessons.. its them that are probably at the end of their capability and are still rubbish with no hope what so ever of improving! let them be bitchy etc cause theyare not worth it! If you ever beat them just say well not so crap now am i? lol

Thank you for all your comments - you are right, i shouldn't let it bother me. Im 30 years old for gods sakes and the person that made the comment doesn't even ride anymore!

Oh Horrible to have to hear that. What did they say? Was it just nasty comments or something more professional but not (if you know what I mean)??

I would always ignore nasty pointless comments... And always remember the type of person who makes nasty, pointless comments are the type to pity. As only insecure people do this!x

I'd either totally ignore them or ask them if I was paying them for instruction, and when they said no, tell them to shut up.

I was riding a new horse that came on to the yard, i liked the look of him and wanted to try - he's been badly schooled and doesn't really go anywhere when you ask him to canter. So rather than trying to look all nice and neat (working in an outline) i was trying to get him to go forwards and stretch out a little and i think in his old place he was pinned down with draw reins etc.

Any way as i rode past i over heard some one saying that i was the wrong person for this horse and i would only make it go backwards rather than forwards..... But as i went passed the gate it took a few seconds to register what was said.... and then i thought to myself hang on a minute, im not a bad rider how dare you say that.

I'd have to say something. People like that assume everyone else is too meek/polite to make a fuss. I'd embarrass them in front of a group of others by pointing out to them very loudly that they should discuss issues with me to my face rather than with others. I bet they'd be mortified.

This is why i am soooo glad i'm not at a livery yard. Girls like that would have a field day watching me ride!:o

I would have to say something too but I wouldnt want to be too confrontational so I would wait for them to say something nice again to your face and say 'thankyou but its a shame you say such horrible things when you think Im not listening! and leave it at that.:)

Ah, I see. Not worth saying anything in my opinion. So many people always think they can do better... It is so easy to make comments from the ground. Good on you for trying him... Don't allow this to affect you it really isn't worth it. It sounds to me like you were doing the right thing (as in forwards is so important - without this you have nothing to ''work with'')

Maybe, if it happens again, walk over to them and politely ask them exactly what you should be doing to correct your 'terrible' riding, play dumb then say, "in fact, maybe you'd like to get on and show me how it's done?". That should stop them in their tracks!
(and make them look like an idiot and like they don't know what they're talking about if they were just saying things to be nasty)

I'd ignore it.

Most comments made like that are made for affect. She could have said it when you were down the other end of the arena or out of ear shot.

My guess is jealousy that YOUR on the new horse and she isn't.

Just because your 30 doesn't make personal remarks any easier to want to react to. I think it's so easy for people to bitch ESPECIALLY when they don't ride anymore. ;)

Ignore it & don't even mention it to them.

If it was my riding they were commenting on I would probably agree.
