My mare has been in hospital for just under a week now after she got kicked and fractured a splint bone and I've just had the call off the vet to say the wound is heeling well and as long as the next bandage change goes ok they'll be happy to let her come home on Thursday, I cant wait!

It's crazy how much I've missed the routine of having a horse, she's on DIY so I go to the yard on my way to and from work and I miss seeing everyone and catching up with the gossip! I even went and creocoted the outside of my stable on Saturday so I had a reason to be there... that and there was a new foal arriving so I very generously offered to 'help' (ie. stand around and comment on how utterly cute he is!) hehe!

Anyway, I'm just super duped excited to get her home and on her way back to health!

I wish you and your mare all the best in recovery, Sofi. I can only imagine the initial scare you had from this.

Aw, bet you can hardly wait! As Luna says, bet it was dreadful at first finding out she'd been injured. Fingers crossed for a continued good recovery! And, I totally understand how you must have felt about missing the yard, I hated going away on holiday when I was on a yard, I missed all the people and my horses!!!!

Didnt quite go to plan with coming home today...

Vet rang yesterday afternoon to say there was quite a bit of discharge when they changed the bandage and she was more sore with it than she had been at the last change. So they wanted to re x-ray in case the displaced section of bone had started to die and been rejected by the body as if it were a foreign body.

Thankfully the x ray today look ok and they're happy for her to come home saturday afternoon after yet another bandage change in the morning. Then they'll x ray again after 6 weeks box rest to see what's going on with the displaced section of bone.

So fingers crossed it all works out for Saturday!

it now looks like I might only be able to get transport for sunday, just waiting to hear back from the vet if this is ok, they only have emergency staff on over the weekend so generally try to avoid weekend discharges but I dont see why sunday will be any worse than saturday! I dont want to have to wait until Monday!

I know how you feel, after sophs had her stm cell treatment she had to stay in the vets for 4 days and when they said i could get her home my transport let me down!!! My trailer was being repaired and the people who said they would go and get her backed out that morning, i was gutted!!!!! I ended up getting a transport company to bring her home that night and it cost me a blinking fortune  worht it though to get her home x

It's all looking good for sunday! Her owner (a very good friend of mine) is coming up with her box which is why we're waiting until Sunday because she cant get off work on sat. She also wants to see the vet who's been treating her so I dont mind waiting a day.

I'll let you all know how her rehabilitation goes, hopefully including some gruesome photos of the wound! I'm really hoping we get to keep copies of the x rays too...

Molly had the same injury and she was fine, we box rested her in the stable and with a little bit of yard in front of her so she could move a bit more but not be daft.

She had the same problem where the wound got worse and they had to flush it out more and pick out more fragments. She is sound as a bell on it.

Only thing she managed to do was fall in the trailer on the way back from the vets, plaster and all! I thought she had managed to top herself.

so drive awfully slowly and carefully on Sunday.
