View Full Version : Is there anything you haven't dared to post on NR?

Having been to icyrider's BBQ at the weekend and met up with a load of lovely down to earth people, it struck me just how many of them were telling me privately about things they haven't dared to post about for fear of getting jumped on.
They aren't alone in that. I haven't posted a recent picture of Joy and Littles because they are such fat hefferlumps and I'm ashamed of how they have come out of summer, especially given that I'm normally hot on weight and condition scoring threads.
So do you have the guts to 'fess up to something you hadn't dared to post before? Maybe you don't want to go into detail but can say that there had been something?

Judging by the number of PMs I used to get asking for help which contained somewhat more 'detail' than was posted on open forum I would say a huge number dont post the full story. ;)
There are many times I wont post what I really think on open forum but will PM the person instead.

There's been a few things I might have posted, but didn't cos you never know who's reading and who might start whispering behind your back!
I wouldn't be bothered about posing pics here, NR seems to be one of the few places where people don't jump down your throat about the state of your horse/tack/land/hair/whatever :)

I must confess, there are loads of things I have not posted on here, I once would have done but not anymore:o:)
lobeliaoverhill, not sure which forum you have been on, i see people jumped on all the time from pictures they have posted:confused:

A few things I havent posted on here, but only because if I felt I needed the advice, I went straight to the vet or farrier with my question.
Other times I just dont want the hassle that sometimes follows as a result of the wrong kind of question being asked on here .......

I hardly post about our horses anymore because I don't want to be slammed for some real or imagined short coming in our care/management of them. Luckily I have a couple of other private forums where I can go to for advice so it's no loss.
There are posters I've found annoying, always whinging, always the victim and others who are very knowledgeable but don't we all know it, but not enough to make a thing about it.

I'm with Joyscarer on this - I'd not dare post pics of our pair - they are overweight atm and I'm desperately trying to get them slimmer - not easy as we all know! They have had ups and downs weight wise - maybe when they're thinner and healthier I'd risk it!

no you so dont want to know!!! i wish i had never clicked...
i wont post much about things now, you never know whos reading these and i think there are certain people who will jump on other people because they know them personally.
I remember not wanting to post about something that happened with Midas because i was scared people would say he was too strong for me, but ended up posting it when i realised that was true!!

I am more careful with what I post nowadays
I don't post about everything i do especially if it's not completely PC to everyone.
oh and i admit I have a few pics that are nice but i won't post because I'm wearing 'not exactly' riding attire. nothing mad just wellies that sort of thing.
I don't always reply to posts but do more often then not pm the op if I have some info that may help but don't want to be jumped on.
I have also learnt in the past that everyone has different perceptions of horses they have known and people don't always appreciate you remembering their horse in a infavourable light (even if its true) so its best to just be very vague.
ETA: I wondered about the whole Orions Dad thing too...where did he go to? Last thing i saw on here was about a competition for a riding holiday or something?

i wont say anything again if i strongly disagree with anyone or anything. instead i have added certain folk to my 'ignore list'. that way i dont get wound up by their posts and, more importantly, i wont be tempted to post, get totally misunderstood and then shot down in flames :o (because i naively thought i could freely voice my opinion without getting called all sorts of names!).
and i wont post details of people i know or slag anyone off behind their backs because that is a) nasty and b) its the internet and people will find it, anyways!

I've done that a lot too. Mostly in arguments where I get very hot-headed and go to give someone a piece of my mind, do 'Angry Typing' (apparently I whack the keys with some force according to anyone who happens to be in the room at the time :o:D) then read back what I've written for spelling mistakes, calm down a little, think 'that's too mean' and delete it - I often say I stay out of arguments - the reality is that I go to reply but don't want to sound like a nasty person so delete it before pressing 'Post Reply' :D. There are also a couple of times where I haven't posted about things I've done - I'm thinking leaving Toby loose in the middle of a (admittedly smallish ;)) paddock fully tacked up whilst I run back to the other end for the forgotten mounting block is just one instance that springs to mind :o:rolleyes:. I actually debated posting that even now :p. I've only done it once and won't do it again before anyone tells me off :o. Normally he follows me anyway so I assumed he might that time but there were interesting noises coming from the other side of the hedge which had caught his attention ;). But no I don't post everything I do. That's as naughty as I've been so far but all the same I wouldn't want to be jumped on so haven't mentioned it before!

Ever since being jumped on ages ago when answering another's thread about companions and being told I'm a cruel nasty owner with a depressed miserable horse I haven't posted anything about my girl even though she's her normal happy wonderful self;). Not worth the effort and tbh I don't trust that some people would have enough manners to manage to not be insulting. Sad but true.

Nothing particularly personal goes on here: way too public. I've posted a few things and been torn apart, I mean really nastily, mostly when I was still new to riding and honestly trying to help. I very nearly didn't bother to come back, but it's mostly a useful good natured site.

Lots of stuff, especially during the time I was starting horses for other people and would run into issues now and then, I'd just do a thread search and read about anything similar.
I have pics of my horse's feet I thought I wanted opinions on, but since I don't want to turn them into barefoot feet since that would make it really difficult to shoe him when I need to, with the way his feet grow and wear, I don't think there's much point posting them.

I think all of us have wanted to post something but then thought about what others would say and then not post it. It's almost like a snowball rolling down a hill. Once someone says something, others start saying something also. And like I said a snowball rolling down a hill; it gets bigger and bigger and there's nothing to stop it!

I had always intended on posting a blog on bringing on my youngster from the age of 2 (he's now 5). Never did because (a) i didn't think the "vibe" of the board would really be interested and (b) i did the unthinkable and left him until he was 5 to back. I didn't want the arguments and having to justify my decisions to leave him. The proof is in the pudding and he's now a happy, well balanced and well schooled wee horse. Now we have a blog section i may well change my mind as it's been a hell of a journey with him!

Having been saddened by the number of 1 and 2 year olds on Horsemart that are out and about doing everything - the last one I saw was a 2 and a half year old that was schooled XC  - I have to say it's great to see someone put their horse's wellbeing first! Too many people are in a rush to get their horses started but at least you can be safe in the knowledge that you will have many, many sound years ahead! I dread to think how 'broken' some of the early started horses will be in a few years time :(.
P.s I for one would be interested in a blog and I am sure anyone who has a youngster, or who is thinking of taking on a youngster, would feel the same!

Yes I have to admit I'd like the option to post queerie anonymously in order to get frank and honest answers.
My latest embarressment is that Joy's jabs have gone out of date so I have to start hers again. I'm so stuck for cash at the moment with doing these houses up that I had no option other than to put it (and their teeth) off even knowing I'd have to start again :(
