Just wanted to say that I am having so much fun with my ponio. I have had him about 7 weeks now and we are making so much progress and everyday we improve.
I have done loads of groundwork and have now had a saddle for just over a week. I was dead nervous riding the first time but I can feel we're getting better everytime we ride. He is unfit - been in a field for 18 months - but we are really starting to get there. And yesterday he was such a good boy with his bridle. He had been a bit of a pain with t but yesterday seemed to know that it was going on - either the easy way or the hard way - and he went the easy way!
Sorry if this is a bit soppy but I just love my Izzy.:D
Am taking my camera up tonight so will post piccies tomorrow.

Nice to hear you are getting on so well, sounds like you are starting to get a bond, horses are funny creatures they make you want to laugh, cry, shout and scream but we wouldnt have them any other way :D
Look forward to hearing from you ;)

Aw, its great when we have fun with them isn't it? They can bring us soooo much happiness (and a bit of grief along the way) but as Carrie+Morgan says - we wouldn't have 'em any other way!

What a lovely post!
I love hearing about people using time to do groundwork and not rushing things, the rewards are amazing as you are finding out!
Can't wait to see pics. :)

Welcome to the world of horse ownership.
I so happy its working out well for you,
I remember feeling exactly the same as you and guess what after a year it just seems to get better and better.
Looking back Grace is nothing like the horse she was 8 months ago, you wait and see how you feel this time next year :)
Have fun on route :)

Thanks for the comments.
I am really glad I have done a lot of groundwork - I think some people at the yard thought I just wanted a big dog to walk around! But it has definitely paid off.
The first time I hacked him out in hand I went with someone else who was riding her horse. She went ahead in case Izzy got worried, then her horse wouldn't go past the bins and Izzy and I went in front for most of the walk and he didn't bat an eye at cars, trains, ponies running up and down the fence, llamas etc. My friend was well impressed with him and so was I.

Hi Libbyo, the livery yard is in Streat.
It is the best feeling when it is going well. I did his feathers tonight with pig oil and sulphur - not that much actual fun but he was very patient with the smelly stuff I was covering his legs in.

I hope you continue to get so much fun from horse ownership, that's why we have them!
Groundwork pays off every time, though the riding will also be great I'm sure.
