Bertie, my Shettie, is definately a bit nervous of cars. To be fair he has
only been out a few times in the traffic and when I took him out with Cookster the other day he was definately beginning to relax.

So, yesterday I decided to walk him down to a busier road just down from my yard stand on the sidelines and let him watch the cars.

Sioned was throwing a wobbly cos he was going out on his own but fair play, he ignored her, lol, and off we went.

Now he stood at the junction like a little pro and quite honestly seemed totally unphased by the cars, so 15 minutes later I decided to go back up.
On the way back up there is a Road that goes straight thro' with a turnoff up to our yard and a triangle of grass. On the grass is a big green bin full of salt for the Winter as the Road to our Yard is on a Hill.

I was stood there showing him the Bin, lifting the lid, letting it bang shut etc., and he was quite frankly BORED....when steaming round the corner at about 30 - 35 miles per hour comes this people carrier. Bertie was stood on my
side of the Road with his bum sticking out on MY side of the Road, having a look at the bin. There are a few Cottages in a Rank that ALL
have young children living in them.......................
I looked at the car, realised it WAS NOT slowing and waved frantically shouting 'Whoa, slow down, ready to
pull Bertie up on the grass to allow HER to go past...........

She did NOT stop OR slow:eek: SILLY B**CH !!!! I had to YANK Bertie
onto the Grass as she sped between his butt and the wall, literally INCHES........ I swear I went MENTAL!!! I was jumping up and down waving my fist and shouting abuse, even her CHILDREN were shouting at her. It was Bright, it was Sunny but all the same, SHE saw me.... I had a full fluorescent BRIGHTPINK waistcoat on saying 'Horse in Training, please pass wide and slow'

Well, that did a lot of good then!!!

I have to say in all honesty I am GLAD she did not stop after cos I swear I would have dragged her from her silver people carrier and very likely been arrested for Assault:eek:lol.

Bertie, I have to say, didn't batt an eyelid and did not realise how close he had come to being somebodies new car bonnet sign !!!

Take a deep breath, all is well with Bertie, I hope! It isn't easy to do at the time but getting cross with the driver might just send the wrong signals to your pony, if you get tense and shout loudly, then he will only learn to be frightened of vehicles because the reaction you give is, to him, caused by them.

I bet the kids in the people carrier gave their mother enough of a row, and wouldn't it be ironic if she was hurrying because she was late taking them to riding lessons? :D

Lol, I have to say Bertie, who is on 'very restricted' grazing was
far more interested in the grass on the triangle than his mad 'Owner, leaping
up and down' !!!

Grrr stoopid people driving too fast! Glad you and Bertie are ok, and you haven't killed anyone!

I had a similarly stupid driver behind me when I was driving down the lane to my RS, I was going at about 25mph (slower round the bends) as it's a single track road and there's often riders on the road, he came zooming up behind me coming right up to my bumper to try and get me to go quicker, we turn the corner and there's a group of riders. I'm soo glad I was in front of him or he'd have gone straight into them! He then pulls into the RS car park behind me - turns out he was someones parents going to watch them at the show

Some people grrr!!

A friend of mine had a great trick whilst out riding on the road a few years back. She bought a load of black and white check material, edged her yellow high vis hacket with it made a tail bandage, overed horses boots with it also made a band to go around her riding hat. A few people even commented what a 'lovely police horse' she had....

It is one of the things that drives me up the wall when people are that irresponsible, many a time have I had screaming matched with people about this. It's ridiculous how people can think it's a good idea to do that.

Is Bertie, Egbert Mcmuffin? May I add that that is THE single most coolest name I have EVER heard for a horse!

Try and take the positive out of the situation, at least he didn't totally freak out!

lol, YES Bertie IS Egbert Macmuffin:p

TBH you have to 'see him' and 'know him' to know just how much that
name sort of FITS, lol:p He came with the name, they however called
him 'Red' But he is beginning to answer to Bertie;) and yes, he was a very good boy.

Glad you both survived that one!! Cant understand these drivers' logic they think they own the road and we are just nuisances but dont they realise that its not only us they hurt if they hit us but most likely themselves, their passengers and quite possible someone ends up as fatalities. How would they feel then??? Try explaining that one away to their kids!

But that was one of the things that incensed me the most

She had her kids in the car!!! I was about 10 - 15 Yards from the nasty bend in the road, what if someone had been pushing their Child across or
a parent with a youngster on a bike.

Its quite a well known area for people out walking OR people out riding.

I just 'HOPE' my ranting and raving :p WILL make her think next time
she comes round that bend.

Oh my God, I'd have reacted exactly the same way. It annoys me enough when people zoom past my ploddy cob on the roads, never mind if I was riding a younger, greener horse! Glad you and Bertie were OK :)

I wasn't actually riding, he was out in-hand. First of all lol, he is only
2 and secondly I think my feet would drag on the ground:)

I bought him as a companion for my Welshie X and for my Grandaughter
to hopefully ride next year:)

What a great idea!! Would we get arrested by the real police for impersonating a police officer or is that only if you are trying to arrest someone pretending yourE a police officer!?

Hey Fairlady......Do some research for me.....get your black and white checks out find the people carrier and arrest her!!! Then let us know if you get into trouble with the police.

Seriously though what a STUPID B*TCH. I really hate people like that....she would be the first to complain if you drove past her precious flippin' kids like that.....which you wouldn't anyway!

Really glad no-one hurt.

Lol, I actually work for the Police, working in the cell complex looking after everyone who has been arrested;) Although NOT a Police Officer, I am a Detention Officer, I have to wear the Uniform with a few 'slight' differences. I DO have a Police Hat, lol, the coat AND the Hi Viz Vest that they wear..........just in case I am ever needed elsewhere, lol. All of it says 'POLICE' and then there is a little sewn on badge that says 'DETENTION OFFICER' HAH !!!!

PERHAPS I should wear that next time, lol, but it would be 'Very Embarassing' IF I
had grabbed her and ended up in my OWN CELLS:p

Some people seem to think that once they're in their car they are oblivious to anything and feel that they are really safe. It's a shame you couldn't have taken her no. plate and reported her, although the police probably wouldn't have done anything unless you, Bertie or her kids had been injured. There is no need for this kind of driving and I'm glad you and Bertie are OK if only a little shaken.

TBH it all happened SO FAST, I didn't have time to take her Number or anything, although describing it in writing it sounds as though it all
took ages it was literally seconds:eek:

Driving along there tonight and looking at where it happened I still cannot
believe she managed to squeeze through, the lane is quite narrow, let alone at the speed she was driving:eek: I think it was only the fact that
I Yanked Bertie up on the grass that stopped a nasty accident, I really
do:mad:
