but I really miss my old loan horse, even had a dream about her last night :o dont get me wrong, like my new horse but shes not the same! If I could afford two I would loan her in a second, bonded straightaway with her. New horse I havent so much, shes not as chilled out and tries it on because her old owner was scared of her and let her get away with murder. pointless post really but starting to feel like I made the wrong choice! Think ile get some lessons soon on the new one and see how it goes..

Not sure if this helps but I know exactly how you feel.
I loaned a horse many years ago after manny years of being around other peoples. Trixie was a tricky young mare but she turned round and I really thought the world of her. Owner took bacj as she was in foal:mad:
I bought a pony who was initially very sharp and spooky. She could bolt across a road in a second and was teerrrrified of tractors (not good round a farm!). I really missed Trixie and for a year could have happily sold Peps to anyone! But over time I really bonded with her and still own her 11 years on!

I'm no expert, but I have a new loan horse and couldn't get a saddle for a while and so did lots of groundwork with him before I really got to ride him. I had him for 6 weeks before I got the saddle.
I found that the groundwork really helped us bond, and it really got his barginess under control. Now that I am riding him, I am actually really glad I had the time to spend with him without the pressure of riding. We did loads of things: lots of grooming, groundwork exercises, long lining, free schooling, in hand hacking, hand grazing and just hanging out.
Perhaps you could try mixing up your riding with some groundwork and chill out time with her.
Don't worry and give it a bit of time. Good luck:)

Don't feel too bad, think its quite normal when you had a Horse you were
bonded with.
I had the unfortunate experience of having to sell a Horse years ago with the
breakup of a marriage that I was totally bonded with, tbh anybody and everybody bonded with him;) It was without doubt the HARDEST thing
I ever had to do in my life.
That was in 1994:eek: I STILL compare every Horse to him;) Never met
one yet that 'matched';) but I have met a few that came close with 'different' qualities. Give it time.

You will come to fall in love with her soon. I was like that with my current mare. I have had her nearly two years and it is only recently for me that I have really begun to love and can't imagine life without her.
I too had another horse who I adored and he was my life. He had to be retired though for my own horsey goals. I used to feel guilty about it all the time.
I love my mare now though. All will be ok.
