Those of you that read my thread in the week about me having to have my dog put to sleep will know all about it and how hard it has been for me.
Well, it has only been 3 days since, and I feel absolutely cr*p and guilty as hell.
Anyway, I thought I would ride my lovely boy today and take my mind off things ..... or so I thought.
Brought Victory in from paddock. Tied him up. He would not stand still, on his toes, head in the air. Went to put his bridle on, head straight in the air, like he used to do when I first bought him, until I got tough with him. I thought, right, not having any of this, so I tied him up in his stable and proceeded to put bridle on. Head straight in the air and then he walked off, breaking bailer twine and trotting off with bridle round his legs.
I think he knew I was feeling week and low today and took the P**s.
Result: Snapped bridle and me feeling even worse.
I was hoping to school for an hour and take my mind of things.
Someone make me smile.... please.

I really feel for you - such a horrible situation with your dog, but please don't feel guilty - you absolutely did the right thing. At least you're not having to post here that a family member was attacked, which would have been a lot, lot worse..
I'm the same as you - tried to ride my mare when I was feeling really down in the dumps and needed cheering up, and the little madam really took the mickey. It was a disaster, and the moral I've learned is, when you're feeling really down, spend time with your horsey friend, but do not, under any circumstances attempt to ride, as their sympathy and understanding doesn't extend to being ridden...:D

I think theres quite a few horses being little toe rags at the min! Must be something in the air! However I would maybe get the dentist out to your horse if they continue being arsy about having the bridle on to make sure they arent in any pain.Mines being a bugger at the min so im getting the dentist and saddle fitter out to make sure she hasnt got a reason to be an arse lol. Hope you feel better soon:)

Oh dear, I will send cheery vibes to those that need 'em! I find the simplest things cheer me up at the moment. I am currently having some health problems (won't bore with the details) and yet more neighbour trouble (can't post due to legal reasons!) anyway, OH and I went to our local tack shop and I sneaked off looking at boots and came away with some long rubber riding boots and I have to say, I am DELIGHTED with them! They were cheap (and I had left over birthday money to spend anyways) and I am having so much fun wearing them (I told you small things work for me!). They are comfy and I can get them covered in mud and it doesn't matter! Plus, from a distance they make my legs look longer and thinner!!!! hehehehehe. I keep waving them about doing a dance in front of Storm but she just ignores me.............Anyway, my advice is: treat yourself to some small affordable item that you normally wouldn't - and think about how you can enjoy riding in it (when both you and your horses are feeling better!). Go on now, you know you NEED a new item from the tack shop.........

Only recently had his teeth done. I went through the bridle thing after I first got him and had teeth and back etc etc checked. It was just him taking the mickey out of soft mummy!!
Anyway, when he wants to be a bit naughty that's what he does, so he thought he would try it today, and me being in not the best of moods got stroppy with him so he pi**d off!!
Anyway advice appreciated.

Hi Claire1605, I havent read your previous post about your dog so will find it. Sorry your feeling down and horsey not playing the game. Happens to us all. How many times have we said to them "you are so selfish, I feed you, look after you, clear up after you, give you a lovely home and all I want from you is about an hour out of your day and you cant even give me that!!" Yet we love them unconditionally. So chin up missus, you are not alone, your time will come!! Big (((hugs)))

Darling, please don't feel guilty about your dog - you did the very best thing. I know people who have kept their dogs going for far too long and it just isn't nice to see.
My share pony is also a little buggar with his bridle. He tosses his head around all over the place. Once its on he is as good as gold - he just hates it going on cos he is such a glutton he just wants to keep his head in the hay net every second of the day! Today my share owner got really cross with him ..... i think he thinks i am stupid cos i just stand there and say "oh please be a good boy, i know your lovely, but please stand still!"

Ugh those kind of weeks are always horrible. I like Trewsers advice ... get yourself a little treat from the tackshop. I almost stopped there today, it's on the way to my mum's and I could really do with some lovely warm riding/mucking boots for winter ... Resisted so far!

I think you just wasn't in the right frame of mind and maybe your horse picked up on your vibes, I know mine can sense when things aren't right with me and wont be as settled as normal. You probably would have tacked up quicker had you been feeling 100% and not given Victory any time to be silly, I dont do anything with my horses if I'm not in the right frame of mind as rather than making me feel better I find that things are more likely to go wrong.
If you fancy tea and cake at the saddlery shop - let me know, I can highly reccomend the coffee and walnut cake, solves my problems every time !!! lol

Got to agree with Trewsers - I bought a loverly fluffy pair of Joules Allsorts socks at HOYS last weekend, and they cheer me up every time I put them on! :D:D
Sorry to hear about your doggie though, I dread that day coming with my rescued GSD - we've been through so much together and he's my baby. I think feeling cr*p & guilty is part of the grieving process, if what I've gone through with previous pets is anything to go by <huge hugs> to you though.
I'm sure horses can sense when you're feeling a bit vulnerable - some seem to go easier on you, some take the p*ss! I ride once a week at a RS, and it's SO hard to get on and relax and ride well when you're tense and have had a sh*tty day at work - but it's the only chance I get all week, so I try to make the most of it. It's hard sometimes though :o. Keep your chin up anyway hun - things will get easier xxx
