Well, some people know that my lovely pone has been lame for the last 10 weeks, as his arthritis flared up again. I have to say that it has been an extremely worrying time for me, as my vet couldn't assure me that he would come sound, it was just a waiting and hoping game.

Had him out again to look at Banjo yesterday and he is SOUND!!!!!!! As the proverbial POUND!!!!!!!

I am so happy, I cannot tell you what a wonderful day Josie my sharer and I have had with him!! Anyway, here's some pictures!!!

Here's Jo and Banjo - aint he a lovely colour! He always goes conker coloured in the autumn!!!

After all that tanking about, we went for a hack around the private track at the yard and got some sun!!!

I'm so pleased for you :D

One question. Was this the first time he's been ridden after 10 weeks off lame? If so I really really would suggest you build him up slowly, certainly no cantering for several weeks, if you want to keep him sound.

Thanks for the advice, but I've done exactly what my vet suggested and that is to be totally guided by Banjo. :) He said to start in walk and gentle trot and if he was feeling okay, i.e. level, not pottery and fluid in his movement to try short bursts of canter. He was only ridden for 20 minutes on Saturday and most of that in walk, with short periods of trot and canter.

My Vet has actually said that, for a horse with arthritic pasterns, it is harder work trotting for them than it is to canter, so not to worry.

Well it's up to you & I can understand wanting to be guided by your vet, but I'd be sticking to walk work for a while if he was mine.

Great pics - you must be so happy!

One of the best ways to maintain arthritic joints is to get them moving, just walk work may not be enough to manage the problem. No, you dont' want to be galloping around everywhere but I'd have thought that gentle trots and canters would be good for the joints. It is very important though to have a nice long warm up - which it sounds like you're doing :D
