Had 2nd opinion on thursday and then my vet friday.
Told my vet about the 2nd opinion, he is happy with it and said rosie is better than she was the last time he saw her 9 days ago.
Rosie took one look at the vet and tried to run away!!!!!!!! yipee go Rosie, he said a horse that can run from the vet dosnt need to be PTS.
She is still loosing some kind of fluid, i have to keep the leg covered and soak up the fluid and he said what I had been doing was perfect and to leave her turned out.
The bill so far is .................... £4357.30 eeek with my insurance covering the max of £3000, i love my horse.
she has eaten up every penny I own but would never be without her.
But now that my vet is happy and i had the 2nd opinion and will be left alone for 2 weeks I am feeling totally exhausted and the realisation that I havnt got a horse I can ride has really set in, all I ever wanted was for Rosie to be ok but now I feel like i want to ride, its weird.
So she is out in a small paddock next to Peach and bramble in the day and i put her in a large sectioned area at night in peach and brambles field, It dosnt feel right leaving her alone at night, plus I know she sleep in the sectioned off bit.
What a rollercoaster of emotions and never wish the same to ever happen to anyone else, all I will say is always go on YOUR OWN gut instinct, even if it means you go against a professionals opinion.

here she is on thursday having her 1st taste of freedom with all the dressings off to let the wound breathe, looking at her you wouldnt think she was poorly

You must be exhausted, mental anxiety IS exhausting. However you stuck
with your instincts and looks like it was the RIGHT thing to do, you know your Horse better than any Vet;)

As for the money:eek: well, it would only be spent on something else now
wouldn't it;)

I can understand the missing the Riding and thinking about any long term consequences with Rosie, however, you are over the first Hurdle aren't you,
last week they wanted to PTS..........hang on in there, it may take a while
but who is to say you won't be hooning around on her again in the not so distant future.

Ask around you may find someone who is only too willing to
let you ride their Horse to give it some exercise, especially at this time of the year when the nights are too dark to ride if they are working. There is always
someone who knows someone etc. etc.

Main thing is it looks as though Rosie is on the way to recovery, it may not take too long or it may take a long while but she is leaps and bounds on this
week to where she was last week;) I appreciate she is not totally out of
the woods yet and your worries are not over and done with but just for now you can afford a little sigh of relief.

i think you have to accept that at the moment you are suffering from stress and shock, never mind the financials.

chill, take it a day at a time. she is still with you, she is content. and the leg may heal, and she may be rideable. in time.

wait and see.

I am so pleased to hear this,I have a good feeling about her recovery you know,I think she will come good in the end, might just be a bit of a journey for her to get there.

I am hoping from the sounds of it that the fluid thing really isn't as drastic as it first seemed, probably just the healing process, and need to wait it out.

You're doing a fantastic job of 'nursing' her hun,and we are all holding good thoughts for you and Rosie Roo:)

So glad to hear about Rosie. From the pics you'd never guess anything was wrong - she looks lovely and healthy.

yep you are so right you 'have' to go with your insticts. Vets are wonderful people but they cant be right 100% - you know your horse so i am so pleased you had the courage to stand up for her, I still have everything crossed that she'll keep making progress, its better that its small progress because it means the body is having a good go at repairing itself - signs of getting well too quickly always worries me as it means they can then fall poorly again really quickly.
