Would you ever go to a big event on your own, and if so, how do feel doing so?

I am thinking of going to Your Horse Live on my own. Whilst I know several people that I could go with, I have planned the presentations I want to go and I really don't want to miss any of them. If I were to go on my own I could sit through what I wanted to and chop and change as I felt like it. If I were to go in a group, you have to compromise and may end up watching things that I'm not really interested in and missing out the stuff I really want to see. I know that you can always split up in a group and meet up later, but someone always ends up getting offended and it's just hassle.

However, am I being grumpy and antisocial? Is anyone else going on their own?

No, you're not!

Living near Hickstead, I regularly go on my own as no-one else wants to come every day wiht me

Its definitely easier than trying to please everyone I'd say.. There's nothing worse than missing out on things you want to see when you've paid a fair amount for the ticket! x

I happilly turn up by myself and watch my friends perform. I've no issues with having just myself for company :)

I went to the parelli conference in Birmingham on my own last year and that was the whole weekend. Im not a confident driver and my car blew up on the way but come hell or high water I was determined to go!!! It was fine - I chatted to people in queues etc made friends with the lady next to me who just happens to live 10 miles up the road and we still keep in touch and generally had a ball. There were times I felt a little odd but hey, thats what mobile phones are for! I am going again alone this year but have booked in for a dinner/dance one evening and will meet up with someone I know in the evening. During the day its just me though.

I went to the new forest show on my own this year and that was fabulous - Im going every year on my own ;) I went in EVERY tack stall (some twice) watched the thngs I wanted to, ate when I wanted to etc etc I loved it.

Im going on a pleasure ride on Sunday and actually my friend is coming with me now but I had planned to go alone. The organiser put me in touch with another lone rider - she is still meeting up with us and we will see how it goes on the day

I live a pretty hectic lifestyle and always have loads of people around so having some time to myself and being wonderfully selfish is great :-) i am very comfortable with my own company - the only times i feel a little awkward is eating, especially if its in a posh restaurant - but just take a book or a newspaper and keep yourself amused whilst looking intellectual and a little mysterious..... ;)

No, I wouldn't go alone, am far too shy and un-confident. I am scared of my own shadow in crowded places and am generally rubbish. I admire anybody who is confident enough to go alone tho! Besides, if I went alone I would end up buying far too much from all those stalls they have.........(with nobody to but the clampers on my spending!)

I'd happily go alone. Went to Badminton a few years ago, and sat through all the dressage tests which would have bored my OH rigid. But I'm also happy in company. Trewsers - I'll come with you if you want to go anywhere! You're not too far away! (Not got anything coming up though. I'm away for the demo in Woodford which is a real shame).

i go most places on my own as it normally takes too much hassle to organise things with other people especially if it is short notice.

I'd be happy to go alone.
Eat what and when you want.
Watch what hyou want.
Go to the stands you want.

But I'm happy to go with friends too :)

I think I'm going on my own. I've never been before and I just want to see what I want to see, spend as much money as I want without people commenting and just do what I want, when I want.

With the right people I think it would be fun, but I don't know the people from my livery yard well enough yet, and the other horse people I know never have any money to do anything.

I'm very independent anyway, backpacked all over the world on my own, so I quite enjoy it. Besides I'll talk to anyone!

yep thats the kind of thing i would do - then I know I'd get to watch exactly what I wanted without worrying whether the person I was with was actually happy with it or sitting through it because they feel they have to. I've been to a couple of events on my own, I find I concentrate better without ending up talking all the way through it.

Yes, I would go on my own.

I have the kind of 'face' that people seem to start chatting to anyway
tbh:p

My Sons used to refuse to come shopping with me for that very reason,
they could never understand how I used to end up in full on conversations with
complete strangers, lol.

I would be quite happy watching what I wanted and dipping out of anything that was of no interest.

Only problem is I would probably automatically turn and speak to somebody
about something spectacular that happened or something exciting, and then remember that I was actually ON MY OWN, lol.

You said you know other people going so why not arrange to meet up for lunch or a coffee or something? That way you dont have to compromise on your schedule but you still get some company at times.

I find sometimes I'm in the mood for being by myself and other times I like the company, I think this applies best when shopping! Even if you end up in company you can always plan to split off and fit in the things you want to see.

Go on, be selfish for once!

Aw, thanks:D I would probably be ok once I actually got to a horsey event, it would just be thinking about it that made me nervous!:o
