I went to view that yard and will be moving the horses there, They have offered me grass livery for Joey but he wouldn't have anyone with him which he wouldn't cope with (they don't do grass livery and all the other horses go in at night) The yard is ideal for Misty and Odin and in a couple of years Odin will be started and I will then have Misty and Odin to ride so it is unlikely realistically that I will have the time etc to put into Joey which he does desperately need to help him on his road to being a normal horse. So am putting him up for loan. i am trying to write an advert for project horses and have now written it 3 times and deleted each time as it doesnt sound right so thought i'd ask for advice.
The basics are
Joey is a 7 year old ex racer good to catch very friendly and if he trusts you he will try his heart out. fantastic to ride never bucked reared or bolted and always a snaffle mouth with good breaks and not spooky does not like jumping and gets very anxious. Prefers ot hack rather than school as has been known to 'shutdown' when schooled. Has been unridden for a year to give him 'time out'. Now ready to come back into work. Will unlikely be able to compete but would make fantastic happy hacker.fantastic with ALL other horses, playful but very gentle
bad points are
petrified of stabling but with work could maybe one day get him back in one.currenlty lives out 24/7 happily
if anxious becomes quite boisterous and has been known to nip and rear (usedto rear in hand no longer does this but has still been known to rear at people at liberty)
terrified of farriers and as a result is kept barefoot. Currenlty being worked with by an RA to work on this issue
can be difficult to bridle, does nothing horrible just lifts head higher and higher and fiddles, does same when you catch him but for some reason is fine if everything is done from right hand side as opposed to left.
takes time to load and has to travel with another horse. Once in travels quietly and calmly.
can get himself quite anxious over trivial things and needs you to take charge of the situation for him, he needs firm but kind and quiet handling. Joey does NOT respond well to raised voices or being smacked, this tends to up his adrenaline and make him 100 times worse
He responds very very well to IH and as result this may be a good type of home for him or perhaps parelli.

Up to date with all vaccs/worming/teeth/back etc. Has been given all clear by chiro to return to work and has been long lining well the last couple of weeks. Has had regular chiro/physio/reiki etc to make sure all is well physically.
Only experienced kind loving understanding people need apply no novices or nervous people. this horse is not easy and in the wrong hands could be very very difficult.

So how do I put all that in an advert?

Thankyou and well done if you got through all that :p

Could you put brief description of Joey. Then ask for someone who is into IH and experienced. I guess when people start calling you, you'll be able to see who matches Joey best and who doesn't.

thats if anyone does lol he's not exactly the easiest horse. I just feel I should put his bad points etc so nobody phones without knowing full details?

Yes I agree put a brief description of him and then just put that he's looking for someone who has the time and patience for a loving but challenging prey animal.

Then when they phone you can explain to them. You get a better feel for the person when you speak to them on the phone.

Why cant you just put all of that in your project horses ad? Perhaps a bit more about his strengths and some great pics to entice them in. Many places will let you put long ads in - I am thinking of IH forums, parelli forums, NFED - all will allow loonnnggg ads. I always think better to be honest up front

There are lots of people out there looking for a happy hacker to live out - cant see that you would have too many problems. To be honest he sounds like a typical 'comes with baggage' horse - the fabulous ones people keep to themselves and dont loan out! Someone out there is looking for a horse to lavish lots of time and attention on - you just gotta find 'em!

Good luck, it sounds like you are making the right decision.

Hubby keeps saying I am so enthusiastic it makes him almost want to get a horse - I think he is only half serious but have been keeping an eye on the for loan ads anyway - just in case ;) Not sure we're ready for Joey though!
