Well its blowing a gale, and trying really hard to rain.. I was asked if I want to go down the trail.. in this? You must be joking!! The girls in question are the ones who I've ranted about in the last thread.. I haven't been able to approach her yet as I want to get her on her own..
Well, one of my mates came up for a chat, whilst I started my youngsters jobs, and jokimgly said "Are you sure this roof's gonna hold?" LOL.. sometimes I thimk it will blow off like a classic seen from a tornado movie:D.. it was proper shaking!! But like I said to her its been there 20 years, and I'm sure it'll be here a while longer..
I've just got home from a rather blustry afternoons mucking out and poo picking. Low and behold, I've just got the starts of the migraine from hell!! I'm seeing zig zagz and not much else.. I'm writing this message unable to see what buttons on the keyboard that I'm pressing:eek:
I've not had one of these in nearly 2 years! I'm now unable to think straight, so taking my time writing thus:rolleyes:
My question is to you, would you ride i this wind? Out with 2 young horses? both under 4?

No! My boys are 3 and 4 years, and I stayed put in the stables and spent time trimming them up today. My daugher risked a ride on our sensible 8 year old - and came back in about 10 mins - effort of staying on - she thought it was a bit much.

I was going to ride but then the heavens opened and the wind picked up. So I thought, just turn them out I'll ride on Tuesday. It was their first night in last night and Adella was almost too keen to get out, so she's had another day off.

No, I wouldnt. Last time I took a horse out when it was windy like this she ditched me and took off back home along a busy main road, she even crossed the road so she was on the right side!

No way I would ride in this. My baby, Heathcliff is an Arab who simply doesn't do rain, water or puddles. Frank, my schoolmaster, would, but turns into a fire breathing dragon and at 18'2 that's enought to start with, forget the extra hand he grows when breathing smoke!! I may be mad to have horses, but not quite that mad:p:p:p

No!! I took my share cob out for a walk round the block as our sand school was flooded and he is 10 and never ever bothers at anything. Now today he was being all spinny (granted we met a herd of cows coming down the road which I dont think he'd seen before!) and we only stayed out about 20 minutes, just enough to stretch his legs really. I probably won't be able to ride tomorrow as it will be dark this time tomorrow when I get there!
I wouldnt dare to imagine what a horse that is young and still spooky would make of the weather ...

I did go out for a bit but we met some pigeon shooters and although they were very polite and considerate Rio got a bit upset about them. I got off and led her past but everything was a bit scary after that and we had a few more stop and stares. Would probably have been OK without that, but she didn't enjoy herself very much, if she's not happy then it spoils it for me too. We've been out in gales before though and it's not really been a problem, especially in company.
She's old and wise though, would be a good youngster that took a gale in their stride on their own.

Dark Storm I hope you feel better soon. I know what a terrible migraine is in fact I had one last Tuesday. To the point I was almost throwing up. Sorry if you've just eaten. But migraines are on a pare with toothache.
Im afraid it was such a strong wind and rain this morning when I got up at 6.00 I went back to bed till 9.30. Decided it was way, way, too dangerous. I do ride out sometimes when its windy. I know quite a few people dont as there horses get spooked. But I think it does a horse good occasionally to go out when its blowy. Mine is a bit more looking around at things I admit. But i don't feel scared to ride him in a wind. Although this morning would have been mental. I think it would have put me, the horse and motorists in danger.
Todays wind has definately got them going. Although there is a bit of wind now its only very mild, just got back from lunging and chunks was trotting around and then going into canter on his own and then bronko bucking. The back legs were flying in every direction. Not really a sucessful lunge, but I guess it got the excitment out of him.

Intended riding, but rain really stopped me more than wind as roads flooding. No pleasure in going out in this, and all horses had a day in. Fields a mountain stream. Hope all quieter tomorrow:cool:

No I wouldn't ride any Horse out in very high winds but 'once bitten twice shy'.
Friend and I were undecided one day if we should ride because of the wind and decided we would 'go for it' and that we were being a bit wimpy.
As we passed a bus shelter the roof BLEW OFF:eek: She ended up on one side of the road on her horse in between a load of self-build houses being built and I ended up going thro' the hedge on the other side of the Road into
the middle of the allotments.
That was the day Michael Fish, the weatherman said 'Hurricanes, what nonsense' and Kents
trees were almost wiped out with the 130 Mile per Hour Winds and everywhere and anywhere suffered storm damage.
Never again:p

I rode today. This is my first 'winter' as a horse owner, and I didn't want to be a 'fair weather rider'. Comet had a nice new cozy exercise sheet and I figured in the woods it wouldn't be so bad! Hmm. hind sight is a wonderful thing. We both got soaked and Comet got so spooked he bolted and didn't stop galloping for about 5 minutes. I got mud in my eye so couldn't see a thing.
However, there is always a silver lining :
1) Comet did an amazing jump over the canopy of a small fallen tree
2) I didn't fall off so my balance is better than I thought it was
3) I did not panic (even when a tree branch nearly knocked me out)
4) Comet got a really good exercise
5) My new Mark Todd exercise sheet really did keep Comet very dry (well apart from his head)
6) we were both very glad to get back to the stable!
I won't do it again (but is it wrong that I got a real buzz?). ;);)

By the sounds of your ride, honey, your comment number (4) was putting it mildly :D

I didn't ride but took Izzy for a walk round the block for the first time on his own. It was too windy though and he was a bit excited - not exactly the toddle around the bridle path that I had anticipated.
Still, we got back in one piece and it's another 'first' I've got done.

I found out that common sense won the day in the end.. the horses were running round the field like loonies, and I think that was enough to persuade them that the horses were not in the mood;)
