Aberdeenshire and Moray have been absolutely bombarded with rain this last 2 weeks. We had been ok, apart from a very soggy field until today. From 9am it has not stopped raining. The drainage on my yard has finally failed and now i have 2 ruined beds and stables that are ankle deep in water  my rugs that were stacked up are saturated  what little hay we had left is ruined  5 bales of brand new bedding are ruined  boots etc. that were piled on the tackroom floor are soddened and filthy  my poor horses are having to stay out in gales and driving rain, which my older cob is particularly unhappy about. I am dreading sorting out the mess next weekend

Not much better over here in Ireland - just sloshed through acres of wet mud to find a relatively dry bit to put some hay out - horses seem Ok but they are used to being out 24/7:eek:

I HATE it - and we still have months to go havent we before the spring?

Feel so sorry for you with all that mess - our house in UK was flooded twice one year and it was a nightmare - but over there at least my paddocks didnt flood!:)

Chin up, gel, it's good for the constitution! :D

I do sympathise, really; we've only had the rain and high winds for two days now. I wheelbarrowed 6 bales of bedding 200 yards across my field this afternoon, in three trips, and it's like a quagmire already. There was a lot of rain during the night, and it hasn't stopped today.

Must be a year for wet winters. We had weeks of torrential rain down here in NZ over the winter months. Luckily my current grazing is on pumice and ash from a huge volcanic explosion over 100 years ago so it soaks away and disappears after a day.

Hope your weather clears soon!

The amount of rain we have had today is ridiculous! Many of the fields are flooded. The road down to the farm is higher up than the fields, but they have flooded so much the water is level with the road and is running across it like a river- can only just see the top of the fence posts in the field

I thought it was bad in East Lothian but we have nothing compared to what some of you are having to put up with

One of the other liveries brought mine in for me this morning to give them and their field a rest, i put them all out again tonight as none of them are keen on being in too long, am feeling a bit mean though as I'm sat here with the fire lit listening to the rain and wind!

thankfully the field is the only bit that hasn't flooded! (hastily touches wood!) it's hilly so the boys can stay at the top which is well drained. sorting out the mess is just depressing  fingers crossed the water subsides for tomorrow.

We started off with heavy rain last night and it hasnt stopped yet, the high winds came in at around 4pm, my field is flooded, I have had to move Abby to a friends stables further out of the village because of the proximity of gardens and fireworks and WAS A NITEMARE tonight shes spokky in the wind the best of times, coupled with being in season I needed a vodka when I arrived there lol, seriously the weather is totally horrendous and this is just the beginning

Well I have to say you have made me feel a bit ashamed:o

I was moaning to myself about the state of my little Yard today as the
Horses had churned up the field leading to the haystore and the stables.

But tbh, its only a bit of MUD, no beds ruined or anything else.

Hope its not too hard sorting it all out, what a Nightmare, sympathies.

*put's sticky tape over Nooksters mouth*:p

Shh hun,we don;t want to hear that and are quite happy living in denial;)

EB-so sorry to hear you are flooded out, hope the damage isn't as bad as you think, and can sort it out without too much bother.

If it makes you feel any better,I was sloshing around my field earlier,am thinking of applying for fishing rights for the couple of new 'lakes' that seem to have appeared overnight:rolleyes:

Nowhere near as badly off as you I know, but you're not alone in being fed up with this weather, can't believe it's this bad so early,am dreading the next few months:(

Sorry about the flooding EB, it's a huge pain to try and clear all the mess up, and drying rugs and boots out is no joke. Is the bedding beyond salvage? Can you use it as a base for the rest?

i'll have to see when the water subsides. Mum, bless her, spent 2 hours fishing everything out of the water and moving things to higher ground. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow (i work 2 hours from the yard, not ideal :( ) and see what's what, even if it's to bring home boots and bandages to wash. I so wish i was more organised  i should have things in boxes, not sat on the floor  we are removing all the tack aswell, just incase! i am glad i held off clipping though. toby is like a wee yeti so should survive living out rugless for a wee while. good job as his rugs are soddened :( although it is a good excuse to go shopping for new rugs!

I feel your pain eventerbabe, I'm just down the road and it's pretty gruesome here aswell, I'm starting to worry about my boy's feet - he seems to like standing in the mud? (although I guess it wouldn't be muddy unless he kept standing there!!)
I've also learnt this evening that mini's are not the best car to go through two foot worth of water, although being diesel we survived. My sis is currently on her way back to Aberdeen caught in traffic jam on the A90 which is flooded and she needs to pee!!

I would normally be jealous of the luxury of having a stable but I feel for you in this situation, here's hoping the weather forecast is wrong big time.

Yep, flooded here in Angus too, it's cr*p.

Heard today from one of the gamekeepers its SUPPOSED to be better tomorrow, rain tuesday, better again weds then awful thurs, fri and into the weekend. Fingers crossed the forecasters change their minds during the week. Our glen's flooded right across from side to side. My stable's in nothing like the mess yours is in EB, but still bloody sodden with the wind blowing the rain straight into it. Is any of your hay or bedding salvageable?

i have to say reading this has made me feel depressed about the winter ahead! i have just started riding again at the worst time of year... typical  ah well, at the end of the day, horses are designed to live outdoors in all weathers, and humans aren't... which is why waterproofs and thermals were invented! in your face, nature!!

The bottom layer of hay is ruined, and overnight a tidal wave hit (as it never stopped raining) and upended our chaff bin so we've lost all that. My BP (which was 4 ft off the floor!) ended up in the drink too >:( the bedding in the boxes is ruined, although there's not much left as it's floated away  we've also noticed that our field appears to drain to the corner by the yard, and because of trees and other rubbish it then drains round the front of our yard! i think that contributed to the flood. Our landlord had better get that sorted and dig a new drainage channel, or unblock the old one. At least it's been a dry day today!

EB i really feel for you, water just does so much damage, and all the extra cost of replacing everything.
It happened once where we are but only lost the beds, since then bank has been dug out behind stables and drained properly.
Hope your landlord gets it sorted for you.

touch wood, we have missed the majority of it and our yard drains well and the fields stay relatively dry unless its horrendous.

feel for you though.

What a nightmare! How's the clean up operation today? Yes, that's something they'll have to sort ASAP, after all it's only the start of the bad weather.

Mine either! I got some CFL bulbs in Dunnes for €3.99 that are the equivalent of 135 watt bulbs and am putting them everywhere in the house!!

It's been terrible here the last two weeks - make me glad I was borked and couldn't ride! Really heavy showers, waterlogged fields (so no turning out for the horses!) roads being flooded ... it did clear up at the weekend, but it's been raining at nights!

I saw on the BBC news this morning a clip of just how bad the weather was in Scotland yesterday - dreadful :(:(. It makes what we had down in the South just look like a bit of drizzle :o

Still, chin up and best foot forward and all that ..........
