I friend on mine had to have stitches in her hand the other week as her horse went down for grass and the reins cut through between her thumb and forefinger - ouch !

OUCH!! How long does the plaster need to stay on for?

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, I got so annoyed with having my arm in plaster up to my elbow for a broken and dislocated finger, that I cut it off the next day at home with some wire cutters!! When I went to the hospital a couple of days later everyone had a go at me (from the receptionist to the nurse to the doctor), and they insisted that they put it back in plaster. I said if they do, then I'll just cut if off again. They made me sign a disclaimer saying I knew I shouldn't be driving blah, blah, blah before they put a splint on it. It's all very well them sticking me in plaster for six weeks, how on earth was I supposed to drive and see my horse :mad:

Sorry cobbychic I've gone off on one there a bit :o:o. These things can happen so quickly, I hope your poor fingers recover soon.

Did you hear them snap when they dislocated, I did :D

Oh and I bet the doctor told you how dangerous horses are ..........

sounds painful, but these things happen in seconds:eek:

Hope you manage to do whatever you want to do with the plaster on;)

ow, ow ow!! that sounds very painful! my mum dislocated her finger a few years ago, similar incident to yours. She found bowen therapy very useful. Infact, if she'd followed NHS treatment she'd never have got movement back in her finger.

Ouch - hope you're feeling less sore soon

The lead rope wrapping trait is one that I'm guilty of too - it's just so easy to forget .....

Oh poor you. We all know not to wrap the rope around, but nevertheless we all do now and again. Bad timing or what!

Still, you are in good company. I once heard Monty Roberts say how exactly the same thing had happened to him.

Oh ows..... that sounds nasty! I must say though this site is a great 'what not to do' with horses, since joining a few days ago I've read threads and learned: not to unload a horse without a hat on; not to feed a horse in the corner of a field; not to wrap a lead rope round your fingers. You could console yourself that at least your suffering might mean others avoid the same accident... probaby not the greatest consolation though :o

Mimi you are mental!!

ouch!!! Hope it gets better soon

I'm seriously OCD about not wrapping ropes around my fingers after I heard a horror story about someone having to have their fingers amputated because a horse bolted. It may very well have been a made up story but it worked on me!

oh poor you that sounds bl**dy painful - hope it doesn't have to stay on for too long. Although a plaster for broken finger does sound excessive.

hugs, though you might not be able to stand one at the moment.

Isn't it amazing how the brain doesnt send a let go signal in some of these situations.

I was dragged to a haylage bale sliding on the concrete floor, leaning back, almost sitting down by my daughters 28yr old arab. The leadrope wasnt even wrapped around, but my brain would not let it go! Ligaments in two were all torn and I still cant open the fridge with that hand 5 yrs later. It causes me a lot of trouble, but I didnt go to hosp at the time, as just thought it was a sprain.:o

That incident made me remember a few years later when same daughter and I were leading two through a herd of cows on the farm to let go and run. We dived under the electric fence and let the horses fend for themselves. They were back at the stables before us of course.

i couldn't let go as we were about to cross a road, my fault for trying to take two at a time

Isn't that always the way. When I went to A&E when Harvs jumped on me the receptionist and the xray bloke both replied when I explained what happened "OH I don't like horses, they scare me"!!!

Mimi you are mental!!

I was back riding two days later, I just had to be very careful when doing up the girth etc.

When I eventually got to see the 'plastics' department about 5 weeks later, they told me how beautifully it had healed.

Just as I was going out of the door of the consultation room the doctor told me to not ride for a little bit longer. When I turned round and told her I'd been riding all this time, she just shook her head in despair :D:D;)

most doctors think horse riders are lunatics but are usually kind about it.

after all, as i explained to them when i got kicked on the hip and was in agony, it is all very well you telling me to take it easy but someone has to still feed them, muck them out etc, they don't do it themselves.
