I got Grace in December last year and dont remember her being this dirty ever:eek:
My grey mare is starting to have brown legs and neck:rolleyes:
Can you give me all your good tips to get through the winter as clean and healthy as possible.
Cheers.

Sorry, don't have any tips as it is my first winter. But I am amazed at how muddy Izzy can get his neck in one day! He has a turn out rug on (no neck cover) but every day his neck is caked in mud.
Good for my wobbly arms I suppose!

:D:D:D
That's what I do, as long as the bits under the saddle and bridle are clean, he can be brown, green or pink for all I care in this weather!

Tip 1. Learn to float and levitate
Tip 2. Give up all hope of remaining clean
Tip 3. Close you eyes when grooming.
I wwn a grey and have given up with the washing for hours and hours and trying to remove the dirt totally.
Sorry its not much help lol.
A good tip I have heard os to cover legs in baby oil or pig oil which acts as a barrier.

S*d the Horses, lol, my TIP is warm gloves and FLEECE socks:p:D
Seriously, both mine have been ROLLING in the mud at the moment:rolleyes:
Great, they are always still too 'wet and muddy' to groom and look
totally neglected:eek: Sioned is now rugged which does help a little bit but Bertie, ....I just give up....

I do the pig oil trick too.
I bung it on the legs up to hock hight and comb it through the mane and tail too.
I don't believe in having clean ponies and go for the scruffy native look which we have perfected!
The pig oil is great for keeping those bits in control though ;)

I do natural scruffy native types unrugged and muddied up  they all have hay and shelter.
I like them to be as natural as possible so cannot really help except to say rug and hose legs if you want to keep your grey clean over winter.

Please can you tell me where I get this pig oil from?? I suppose I must have some form of OCD as I really hate to see Adella with any mud on her, I know its sad, and she just loves to roll in it especially when its time to come in and the mud is wet and the N/Z is heavy with it:mad:
I use baby oil, mane and tail conditioner, aqueous cream for the legs or udder cream for the legs to ward off the dreaded MUD FEVER ugh!! I really HATE it when Adella gets mud on her fluffy bits and its impossible to brush off. Oh how I hate winter :mad:

If we got rid of all the grass/mud in the fields and replaced it with Astro Turf then they wouldn't have anything to roll in and we'd all have lovely clean horses! ;) Do you think your YO's would agree??

The only down side is I know Tyler would take advantage of the burns you get from astroturf and ensure I fell and scrapped along the ground lol

I think they should do what they do with the football pitches and have underground heating that way we would have grass all year round and no mud!!

You can get pig oil on Ebay. Also a lot of feed stores will stock it or will get it in for you.
I use pig oil and sulphur on Izzy feathers and it does keep the mud off.
