Is there a colour of horse you avoid when looking at buying horses?
I don't like bays , I find them a bit 'samey', having said that, my favourite horse before the horse I have now was bay , Oh, I also don't like coloureds, my current horse, who is my horse of a life time is coloured.
There's a saying, a good horse is never a bad colour. How true.
So what colour don't you like?
And thank God we are all different :D

think I must be:o Wouldnt have a bay - agree with your reasoning on that one;) Not yet owned a half way sane chestnut (have had a few:rolleyes:) so wouldn't risk another one!
Aren't we daft??? At the end of the day if there was only one horse left in the world for me to own'ride and it was either chestnut or bay would still take it:D

When I went looking for my horse, I wanted a Black Arab, that was my dream, got a very dark grey one, who now 4 yrs later on is nearly pure white...no-one told me grey went white (I know, I'm dumb blonde and didn't realise) Anyway, he spends his life covered in Mud, (see picture!) so hey ho, any colour for me, they all end up mud coloured at this time of year. :D:p:D

No! I am a lover of all colours!;)
Although having said that, I am now on the lookout for loan with a view to buy and would love something different. i.e. coloured, appaloosa, roan etc.
I do know what you mean about bays but I love them if they have white blazes or unusual stars or something.:D

I'm not keen on greys - I was once told that every grey horse will end up with melanomas if it lives long enough and its stuck in my brain:o.
I also will never again have a horse with a white tail. They are impossible to keep clean and look permanently manky. Give me a nice shiny bay any day:D
So why do I have a coloured with 4 white legs and a white tail and a wee grey pony?

Had a grey as a teenager, never again.

I drew the short straw... i have a bay with a white tail!
I like plain colours. Bays mainly. but with no odd socks or big face markings! pref no white if possible!

Awww, I'll stick up for the greys lol.
I never even thought of having a grey horse, but when I saw Tyler I HAD to have him lol.
He is always filthy, despite hour long grooming sessions, but just gives me more of an excuse to stay with him.

TBH the colour of a Horse does not really bother me.
I shared a Grey, have owned a Bay and a Chestnut now have TWO Skewbalds, and always fancied a Piebald, lol.:p
I guess if there was anything I DIDN'T fancy, it would be a Palamino.

Used to hate chestnut females because I just couldn't get on with them, must have been a redhead thing! Chestnut geldings, I never found one I didn't get on with, ironically! I've owned or worked with just about all colour schemes and I've noticed over the years that it's bays that catch my eye first.
I love my grey because he changes colour slightly every spring when he casts, getting more and more spotty.
And just because I used to hate chestnut females - and never wanted a part bred Arab, either - look what I have now!

I have colours I prefer and nothing I wouldn't go for if I liked the horse enough.
Due to my lazyness I wouldn't want to fall for a light coloured horse though although I love everybody elses! :o

I have owned a bay, a grey, a buckskin, a coloured, a black and a chestnut... we missed out on an appaloosa by 10 minutes:mad: am hoping for a palomino.
Like a wise man once said a good horse is never a bad colour...
I am very sexist though- they are all mares!

I do find bays a bit 'boring', (sorry all you bay owners) but then the best pony I ever rode when I was younger was a bay and I absolutely adored him!
I was never into coloureds until I got one myself, now I really like them :o
But I have to say, the colour palomino wins it for me every time :p

I always said i would never have a grey (an arab or a mare!) yep my first pony was a part bred arab mare and yep she was grey :o
I do actually llike all colours though particularly like blacks, roans, palaminos (not wishy washy ones!) and dun/buckskin. Mainly the colours i don't see so often!:o:D
However its markings that put me off! I don't like too much white on the face and long socks/stockings!

I'd avoid a grey, purely from a practical point of view, but if it ticked all the boxes, then I'd consider it. Don't particularly like Palominos either, but again if it was the right horse then.....
Have a particular soft spot for bays and coloureds, especially cobby/heavy horses!

Well I have a dark bay, a liver chestnut and a coloured although she's Tobiano so more solid colour which a couple of white splodges and white stockings - so mine are quite varied. I actually lean towards chestnuts as I love their reputation, their colour, their spirit which mainly comes from my pony I had as a teenager - typical chestnut mare! lol
My gelding was grey and I lost him at 21yrs old - complication with Melanoma's so it would make me really nervous to have another grey, poor little man had them everywhere.

I like greys:)
Not convinced I'd ever get a chestnut again (have had a couple but all have been a bit sparky)
I like Blacks now but never did until i had Piccolo. I'm not keen on skewbalds.
I love palomino's though (which is a bit odd with my chestnut theory lol)

Its all about personal tastes isnt it - I am always drawn to Haflingers in particular but any palomino type colouring even on the tinyest of pics my eye is drawn to them flicking through the ads.
As a general rule I dont really like greys or many spotted but there are attractive examples of both.
Its all about beauty being in the eye of the beholder and what one person considers attractive is different to another. If I was buying another horse i would be looking at Haflingers or Freisians as I think they are gorgeous.
What i do have a bigger problem with, and what I do consider 'racist' is people assign attributes to colour/breed. Like when people say 'chestnuts are always flighty' or 'greys are stupid' or 'shetlands are stubborn' - you cant make 'personality' or temperament judgements based on looks or breeding in horses any more than you can dogs or people - they are all individuals.

Oh please don't call colour preferences in horses being racist. Theres just so many things that people who are victims of racism have to suffer that horses dont.
Racism is completely unacceptable and means hatred of another race, largely due to their colour. This is miles away from discussing preferred horse colours; please don't conflate them.
I like spotties and black horses. But my fave ride at the moment is a coloured with white legs! You should see the state of them, they are dark brown with mud.

I don't really like horses (or any animal really) that have pink skin around their eyes... something about it puts me off. I like all other colours though would probably go for something easy to clean, given a choice (although I love greys especially dappled). I think contrasting manes/tails look really pretty. I don't know what you call this colour (dark palomino? sorrel?) but I saw this Comtois on a local rescue site and think she's beautiful:

I can't think of a colour I wouldn't have, i avoided a grey this time around for practical reasons, I used to get covered in white hair from my first pony - every item of clothing I had ended up with hair on it, even if I'd never worn it anywhere near her, and my OCD mother went mad at me... Since I'm back living with her [as her Carer] and I lied to her that I was 'working' at the yard I wanted to avoid incriminating myself by coming home covered in white hairs!!
(She's since found out that I did buy a horse)

I would be worried about the melanoma thing with a grey, particularly when I go home to Australia. But I do actually love the look of a grey, particularly the dapple grey.
Otherwise I'd have any colour! Love coloureds though.

Hmm, Luna C - that's not universal: my red-haired daughter had two chestnut mares, one after the other (first a pony, later an event horse) and she looked brilliant on them. Very different temperaments, but neither was a typical 'chestnut mare' ...
Bluntcrayon, that's a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail. Daughter's first pony was one of those, and he was a real angel in pony shape ...
Me the only colour I've never liked is palomino, especially the pale ones - and I've ended up with a flaxen chestnut Haffy ... I nearly didn't buy her because of the colour - bays are my favourite, and I loved coloureds, especially bay tricolours until they became so fashionable. But I love my little golden horse now, especially in the autumn, when she matches the leaves ...
