A lovely happy teenager who has ridden with me for years was killed last night in a car accident.

I was phoned by her brother who was making sure that everyone who knew her was told before the police released her name. I do not know how he coped with this. Not sure how to deal with the girls she rode with but they all seem to know via facebook so we will discuss it on Saturday.

My inclination is a blast around the XC course which was one of her favourite activities.

Does this seem very inappropriate?

Such very sad news.

On the contrary, I think it would be very appropriate, if it's something she enjoyed. The other girls will have fun and remember her, you can celebrate someone's life without being solemn and sad.

How horribly sad. :( Poor girl, and her poor family and friends. :(

I think a blast round the XC course 'in memory of' would be nice...if that was what she liked to do. :)

I'm so sorry to hear that eml. :(

I don't think a blast around the XC was inappropriate at all, especially if that was her favorite thing to do. I'm sure she'd want everone to remember the times when she was the most happy & having fun. x

So sorry to hear eml...i think going round the XC course would be fitting. I am sure she will ride with you all in spirit.

One of my friends daughters died this year in a car accident with her brother. It was devastating but her mum her kept her horse and it helps to keep her memory close.

This is so very sad :(. Poor girl and my thoughts go out to all her family and friends and you eml.

I think a blast round the xc course would be a great way for everyone to remember her. I know I would love it if everyone was to remember me by taking part in doing something that made me very happy.

yep I think a blast round a XC is a wonderful idea, its something she loved and I think it'll help the other riders to release that sad feeling.

what a horrible thing to happen - double sad for me as my friend lost her dad this week and she's had me in tears already this morning - it breaks my heart for the family.

What sad news :( I will never forget losing my best friend the summer after my first year high school... thoughts are with you and the family and I am sure a good blast round the XC in her memory will be more than appropriate!

EML I'm so sorry to hear that, what a waste of a short young life. Life really is very cruel. How devastating for the parents of these young people in both incidences. The thought of outliving my children is a sickening one.

I think a blast around the XC course would be a nice idea.

My thoughts are with their families, poor souls.

What horrible news eml :(

Like the others, I think a good blast will be a fine tribute to a young life lost.

Such sad news – thoughts are with you, her family and friends.

Thoughtful gesture to remember her by, sure she will be watching over and smiling.

I think it's much nicer to do something cheerful to remember a person who's passed away, rather than dwelling on the sadness

So sorry to hear such sad news, I hope that you are ok and my thoughts are with you and your friend's family.

No I don't think that a blast around the XC course would be inappropriate, quite the contrary I personally think that it would be a fitting tribute to someone who enjoyed their sport. hugs x

What a very sad thing to hear. Echo other replies with regards to the blast round the XC, what a lovely idea. There's nothing like horses to help when you are grieving somebody and I would like to say, how very brave her brother was to make all those phone calls, a very selfless thing to do.

Dreadful news. Like others, I think XC would be an excellent idea for her friends.

Don't forget to give yourself time to grieve and let off steam too.
