On sunday I took my 7 y.o. coloured mare to her first ODE. Just a little 2 foot one.

A bit of a saga :

Lorry tried to conk out on the way (finally failed on us 5 miles from home on the way back!)
Took too long walking the course and had to rush to warm up in the dressage.
Entered dressage arena at A, started test, PEEP from judge - turns out I learnt the wrong test!!!!!! Gave me 20 minutes to learn new test (gulp). Tassle was a star and did a nice job for 54% (good for us!)

No time to walk the showjumping (then it rained) but jumped nicely, just 2 fences down (I enjoy jumping a fence so much then forget to set her up for the next one!)

Off to the cross-country, both of us quite tired, no time to wash her over like I usually do.... A few stops on the course, but jumped them all and got a rossette for completing (15 out of 25)

So so pleased with her - lots of work still to do, but considering she could not canter when I had her 18 months ago, I am well satisfied.

Could not walk yesterday though - when she jumps a ditch she prefers a sub-orbital loop! (ouch)

:D :D :D :D

Sounds like a great day out - well done!

You are lucky having 2' ODEs to ride in. Here the smallest are 2'3" - 2'6", there are not very many of those, and they are generally restricted to children...

Well done!!

i'm doing my first ODE in august, but I did do my first two phase last year which was quite disastrous. I came out with 65 penalties for being too slow! oops

How fun! I'm shocked at your ability to learn the new test in 20 minutes! Way to go!

Yay! Well done! At least you managed to make it INTO the dressage arena at your event this weekend! I gave up after only being on 10 minutes and went home! :D
Sounds like you are only going to get better! Good luck! :)
