My horse has white socks and a stocking and it seems that at the pastern it looks very pink. Do you guys think this could be sunburn? If so do you think i should put something on it. I use sunblock on the white part of his nose cause it usually gets pretty burned if I don't. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks.

Hi, It might be sunburn or some other irritation.

Has anything changed in his field of something like that because a horse at our yard gets a funny rash type thing when the long spring grass comes through and rubs on her legs.

I'm no expert though so..

Try the sun block then if it works you've found the sollution but if not at least you can rule that out.

Good luck

Legs definitely can sunburn, so it's probable. G'luck with it--I'd hate to have to keep applying sunscreen to my horse. (Keeping up with flyspray is tough enough.)

If its just pink and there is no dry skin there is a chance that it isn't sunburn.

Mavy has a pink patch on his nose that is white in the witer and pink in the summer. to give you a science lesson, when the horse is warm, the blood vessels come closer to the surface to loose more heat, which gives the skin a pinker colour.

White patches always show the pink skin underneath more easily, but I've had several horse with white legs and I've not had any problems with sunburn - noses are a different kettle of fish because the skin is softer!

Unless the legs are actually showing signs of being burned, I wouldn't worry too much.
