View Full Version : Anyone got any western training advice?

The five-year-old pinto mare I ride doesn't respond well western. She does great english. I NEED HELP!:(Got any advice? I'd really appreciate it!

Because I don't know what spefic advice you need, I'm just going to give you some general training tips.
First and foremost, stay patient! Too many times I see people that have green horses just bust on them and let all their anger on. It really irks me, not like it's the horses fault...
Also, stay consistent with your clues. When you use verbal cues, use the same ones everytime. You would not believe the difference in your horses' responsiveness.
Since your not well experienced in Western riding I would recommend you get some books on basic western horsemanship. It may help just alittle to have a resource that you could go to with specific questions. If you do have a spefic question, I can try to answer them if you'd like :)!
